I am the parent of a sophomore JV football player at Quince Orchard HS @QOAthletics. I write re: the MoCo Board of Health Regulations issued on March 12, 2021, which limit play in our community to “low- and medium-risk sports.” As per the County's website, football is a... 2/
...“high-risk” sport for Covid transmission, so the new order effectively prohibits football play in the County. Please, recategorize football as a “moderate-risk” sport so that players across MOCO and the MCPS school district may play a short “fall” season, as planned. 3/

Some involved with HS athletics are reporting to us that @GovAndyBeshear will refuse the @KHSAA’s 16-2 vote to allow fall sports. No indication on if that will be today or if he will wait until tomorrow, which is the day practices & tryouts are scheduled to begin. #LetThemPlay!
This shouldn’t be a surprise but if it’s true, it’s a bad look for @GovAndyBeshear. What a complete jerk to wait up until the last min to break these students hearts. He fired the Ag policy director during the week of the State Fair, so his panties must be on a wad this week.
If this does happen, the @KHSAA board can call another meeting to approve a modified option that could allow low-touch sports like track & field, & field hockey, to move forward, but not high-touch like football. The final say on that option would also be up to @GovAndyBeshear.
The @KHSAA’s vote yesterday approved fall sports. Under plan, practice for these sports can begin Monday, Aug 24.
Is @GovAndyBeshear going to wait until Monday to dash these kids hopes & dreams?
If an announcement is made today, expect it to be a “strong recommendation.”

If made Mon, it hopefully signals it’ll be mere “advice” to not have high contact sports play until Sept 28.
The vote was an overwhelming 16-2. We don’t think @GovAndyBeshear has the political capital at this point to completely override such a mandate by the @KHSAA board.
