FRONT AND BACK GARDENS
Lots of people who grow veggies probably use their back garden but what about all of that available space in the front?
A lawn can look lovely but wouldn’t lots of fruits and vegetables look even better? If you only have a small space in the front of your house you can utilize containers for growing veggies.
It can also be a lovely way to cultivate friendships with passers by….it could even be the start of a community growing group where you coordinate who grows what.

URBAN SPACES
If you have no outdoor space at all to grow veggies, that’s not the end of the matter. Image
It’s almost guaranteed that there is some unused space within your community that would make the ideal spot for a veggie patch and for bringing people together, it’s just a case of finding the area and talking to the right people.
⁃ @whitemoor_garden_project on Instagram are a great example of finding an urban space. Watch them transform it on their page.

So, nächstes Zugabenteuer!

A few years ago my husband @benblair and my brother @floodstreet set out to create the most affordable, accredited, U.S.-based online university, and make it available to students all over the world. And they've succeeded. It's called Newlane University.

newlaneuniversity.com
Each @NewlaneU degree is $1500, paid at $40/month. If you want to earn an Associates Degree & Bachelors Degree, that’s $3000 total. If you already have an Associates Degree, and want to earn a Bachelors Degree, it would be $1500. (The cheapest degree I've seen elsewhere is $5k.)
When you sign up, there's a one-time $249 registration fee. Try the program for 30 days and if it's not a good fit, no worries, they'll refund the fee. And you can pause the $40/mo at any time — like if there's a family matter that prevents you from studying for a few months.

Weil die erst mal "was leisten" sollen.

#Klimastreik #FridaysForFuture

Since I'm a buddhist practioner, I'd like to share with you some of the techniques my masters have taught me, and that I've personally used, to overcome difficult moments with a stronger and wiser mind:
Thread 👇
1. If you’re feeling anxious, sad or stressed, stop for a moment and focus your attention in the part of your body where you are feeling the tension. Then take 21 deep breaths, inhaling directly to that part of your body and exhaling from that exact point. This is magic!🔥
2. Emotions are just sensations in our bodies until we tie them to a story in our heads. If we can maintain the emotion just as that, a physical sensation, and not get engaged with all the reasons and narratives our mind gives us to confirm that emotion and making it a story...

A little story: “Everything you need to learn to be a rocket scientist is available online, right now, for free."

Several years ago, @BenBlair (my husband) and @JoshStanley (my brother) learned that premise and it stuck with them.
If that premise was true (and they could see it clearly was true), then tuition rates should be falling — and falling fast. But they’re not. U.S. College Tuition is outrageous, and it gets worse every year!

In response, they set out to build the Most Affordable, Accredited, U.S.-based, Degree-Granting University possible — and make it available to students all over the world. And they’ve succeeded.

Permit me to brag a bit about what they’ve built and why it's so cool.

How can I read academic literature quick(er)?

Happy to share an academic #LifeHack

I talked to my students about this, today, I thought others might find it interesting, too.

I'll illustrate using a a paper by @benwansell

Ok, let's see you open an article and you are like:

"Wait, whaaaaaaat 43 pages???"

"And it even contains maths!???!?11!"

So you can either
- switch to panic-mode
- you can drop the course & study program (please don't!)
- or you can read quicker

But how?

In my view, it is most important to know where the most important information is. You want that information.

You want the core info. But where is?

Just told by an editor that giant clams are too specific to be featured in their journal. They said to try again when I study corals.

Is this a problem, or #NewPI #LifeHack ?

The only way I actually get manuscripts submitted and #writing done is to hole up in a coffee shop...

...in an adjacent town...😅

✅ final draft of short paper sent to student co-authors
📝 final draft of another paper with student cos
Update:

Must pause from 📝 this one to do human things. Like eat.

Hmm...how to sequester myself after that? 🐈 always make it hard 😆, but I’m *this* close
Husband had homework to do! So I managed to ✅ that second manuscript & send it out to co-authors! Woot!

Chalking up this one as a win! And off to bed 💤😴

I've been laying on my back on the floor for 10 minutes and I'm by far the most comfortable I have felt in days! That's great. But what am I going to do tomorrow? I'm certain that if I lay on my back in the courthouse it's going to be a problem.
Things are not going well. I'm in more and more pain whether standing still, lying in the bed, sitting in a chair, sitting in a comfy high back chair, you get the picture. I'm about to take a hot shower but would welcome other home remedies for muscle pain
I have an hour ride on the 4 train from the Northern Bronx to WTC. Yes, I am rocking a travel neck pillow (covered on the back by my hood, of course) and it's amazing. I might do this even when I'm not injured. #LifeHack
