1/15 🧵💡 Decentralized storage & compute could truly supercharge the #InternetOfThings (#IoT). But how? Let's unpack this crucial evolution for our hyper-connected world. 🌐👇
2/15 📚 First, it's crucial to understand the concepts. #DecentralizedStorage refers to data storage spread across multiple devices or locations, rather than a central server. #DecentralizedCompute refers to computations performed on these distributed devices.💻🌍
3/15 📈 IoT devices generate an enormous amount of data daily. Centralized servers currently deal with this load, but as more and more devices connect, scalability becomes a challenge. Decentralization offers a solution. #EdgeComputing #Scalability

Because it's Force Design Friday, I'm giving a final push to do a comparative read-through of the TM-EABO 2nd edition!

Last time my battery died at the conclusion of the chapter on Information. We'll pick up with the chapter on Aviation Operations. 1/
The 2d ed ID's three key characteristics for aviation operations in support of EABO that don’t exist in the 1st edition: persistent distribution of aviation elements across extended distances; ops of distributed aviation elements with minimal sustainment from rear-areas... 2/
... and networking distributed aviation elements with the littoral force command and control architecture. These characteristics inform the 2nd edition’s entire discussion of aviation operations. 3/

1/ The future of #trucking is the hybrid carrier, a new model that leverages technology to overcome long standing industry fragmentation and finally provide shippers with the benefits of economies of scale. #SupplyChain #Logistics 🧵

2/ When I started Convoy 8 yrs ago, I wondered why trucking was still so fragmented. Why hadn’t economies of scale caused the market to consolidate around leading providers (like parcel, LTL, air freight, ocean, ridesharing) who could offer better service & lower prices?
3/ Why is selecting dozens or hundreds of trucking providers the strategy of choice for companies procuring these services in the U.S.? The article answers these questions and paints a clear picture of how and why this is now changing with a new model, the hybrid carrier.

#ZeroToOne by is a must-read for anyone looking to build a successful business. Here are ten key takeaways from the book:

The concept of "#monopoly" - It's not about being the biggest player in the market, it's about creating a new market and being the only player in it.
The power of "definite #optimism" - Instead of shooting for incremental improvements, aim for a 10x increase in value. #peterthiel
The importance of "#secrets" - The most valuable businesses are built on secrets that are hidden from the #competition.

A very special present from #TeamOneFist: Op.Switchblade, one of our largest #DataCenter attacks yet!
We hunted down every #networking #switch we could find in #Russia and tested them for vulns. From these, we conducted a #cyber strike against 55 strategically valuable devices 1/ ImageImageImageImage
We penetrated devices both large and small; many of them were at the heart of #ISP DCs like Rostelecom or Kuban-Telecom, but many also belonged to individual businesses. All had high utilization rates, uptime, and were rich in features: these were all core infrastructure 2/ ImageImageImageImage
These included #Russian, #Chinese, and #Western boxes like #Cisco and #HP!
We swiftly demolished them, before any of the sysadmins could react or notice us. After the initial strike, we kept reattacking if they were recovered (>8 times!). No uninterrupted service for them! 3/ ImageImageImageImage

#Russia is approaching a cataclysmic systems collapse in #Ukraine. Why? I'll try address how we see happening today will have multiple effects, some less discernible at the moment, but yet significant in the long-term. No TL;DR on this one , sorry. 1/x
#Ukraine🇺🇦 has the ability to strike in depth. This presents 2 major problems for #ВсРФ🇷🇺. One is direct – the loss of strike systems and #logistics. The other is indirect – an impending systems collapse of logistics and the operational planning cycle. 2/x
Firstly, consider the loss of assets + the need to replace with stored assets (likely cannibalised). This effect is somewhat delayed; the #logistic evac-resupply chain spends fuel, platforms, causes delays, removes protection, and brings about the need to plan all over. 3/x

1/ The earnings call season is underway and we started publishing Earnings Call Summaries last week. Coal availability is not looking good. Peabody Energy (#BTU) said they were unable to ship 23% of July month-to-date (thru Jul 28) customer nominations due to #Rail service issues
2/ As a #NaturalGas and #electricity analyst, I don’t really know what the term “customer nominations” means in the #coal business. That makes me ripe for substitution bias, which was discussed in LCMC’s January 2019 NG Research Dinner through #Tversky and #Kahneman’s work.
3/ Irrelevant detail? Here’s a counterpoint: 90% of Best Picture Academy Award (Oscar) "nominations" don't make it to the stage – context matters.

#AfricaTech #Reflections and the importance (plus issues) with how some think about #TAM (Total Addressable Market) in our ecosystem. Here we go 👇🧵:
1/ We(#VCs) care a lot about TAM. If it’s not big enough, it makes our ability to imagine a large enough exit problematic. What is large enough exit? One where our share at exit (say 5-12% post dilution in future rounds) is a fund returner. On $150m fund – you can do the math.
2/ Africa has many ‘large problem’ or ‘large verticals’. #Agri, #Health, #Education, #Logistics, #Agri and many more. There are also horizontal ones such as access to payments, and B2B ones. While data is thin, many get the part of how big is the overall market somewhat right.

War: it is all about #logistics!!

Understanding logistics, and mastering it, is key to warfare.

This is a fascinating thread about the logistics behind the Russian warmachine, when it comes to how it gets made.
Undoubtedly the West has been attacking Russia. (of course, if it is justified or not... that's a whole other debate, but it is still an attack on Russia)

Interesting conclusion to the loooong thread:
"#Russia is now cured from #Sinophobia."

As it was curious how at the high level, the Chinese & Russian leaders cozied up together. However... lower down, they were avoiding #Chinese products. But, no longer!

1/ Dear all, many among you have asked me about my opinion on #oil, #logistics, #pipelines, price movements and a reality check on the #german #embargo plans. So I decided to make another explanatory thread. Grab a beer, this may take a while to read.
2/ It has often been said that oil is a global #commodity that travels on the seas. That view is not wrong, but incomplete. In fact, much oil is shipped by pipelines, on all continents. For an imcomplete but illustrative overview, see
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_o…
3/ Most pipelines either distribute incoming seaborne supplies to inland consumers (e.g., refineries), or they route domestically produced oil to seaports where it is loaded on #tankers.
