I had acute #COViD19 in Nov 2020, PCR +ve. Developed #LongCovid a month after. Had one dose #Pfizer Feb ‘21 which gave me new symptoms. Out of interest I had my anti-spike antibodies done May ‘21- they were above the upper limit the assay could measure 2/n
With the passage of time my antibodies dwindled. I had them rechecked in Dec 2021- both nucleocapsid & spike antibodies were below the protective limit. Therefore I had no protective antibodies. 3/n

I'm a bit exhausted to repeat this. But #LongCovid | covid are among the best studied diseases in history. In addition to the sheer amount of studies, a lot of research has been done with some of the most advanced techniques in biomedical research. Let's have a look!

;) #bildunghilft

Unser Freund heißt @Dudenverlag , also befragen wir erst mal den #Duden ;

⭐️ Let’s talk about ‘BRAIN FOG’ in POTS ⭐️ Also known as cognitive dysfunction. This can be difficulty concentrating, difficultly finding the right words, recall&thinking.Often described as a fuzzy feeling. There are lots of theories as to why, but this infographic is important 1/ Image
The red is the blood. It should NOT stop at the neck when standing! Gravity pulls it down, it pools in the lower body, less gets to the heart, the heart speeds up to compensate and the end result is often a rapid heart rate. 2/
It should be easy to see from the photo that if blood is not getting to the brain normally, that is NOT a good thing. There have been studies done on cerebral blood flow in POTS. This is just one ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P… CBFV dropped by double that of controls in head up tilt 3/

It has been an honour to walk alongside my friend & colleague of 21 years @BinitaKane & her daughter Jasmin on their courageous & inspiring journey. #LongCovid in adults children is real & serious. There are treatments available- sadly only for a fortunate few #TeamClots 1/n
(Everything I say is with the express permission of @BinitaKane). Jasmin is not the only child with #LongCovid who has been shown to have microclots & hyperactivated platelets. They are a consistent finding in kids & adults who have travelled for treatment to Germany & SA 2/n
Globally 100m are affected by this vile illness. In the U.K. alone this figure is estimated to be 1.8m, with 2/3rds reporting an adverse impact on their daily activities. 1% of primary & 2.7% of secondary school children fulfilled the criteria for #LongCovidKids 3/n

After careful consideration, I have decided to go public with this 🧵My daughter Jasmin has had #LongCOVID for the past 16 months. I tried for >6 months to get her research bloods done in the UK. Hitting brick walls, in desperation took her to Germany in Feb.
#longcovidkids Image
Her fluorescent microscopy (left) showed very hyperactivated sticky platelets. Mine are on the right for comparison. She also had microclots and evidence of endothelial damage (but latter not severe). I believe she was the first UK child under 12 to have these tests done. ImageImage
The platelets and microclots show that her blood is 'hypercoaguable' - too sticky. These may be blocking up the very small blood vessels that allow oxygen into muscles and nerves, which could explain some of her symptoms. 'Fatigue' = tissue hypoxia? Autonomic dysfunction = SFN?

1) Are you taking parental leave or having a break from work to care for your children with #longcovid?

A parent asks -

“I am wondering how parents are managing their work life whilst their little ones are so poorly. So far I have juggled things and taken annual leave but
2) it’s difficult to see how this is sustainable with no end in sight.

are you able to help ?

Many people who had minor covid symptoms - like a cold - get better but then mysteriously get fatigue, brain fog, easily winded, heart races. These can start soon or later after having covid.
Note: My teen's classmate isn't the one in the news article above #LongCovidKids

Many doctors aren't even aware and kids are left with no support or don't even know it is a real condition that was caused by "that little covid cold" they had a while ago.
We can't let this continue. Kids need help! People need to know that getting covid isn't just a cold

@Dr_D_Robertson 🇬🇧 situation

- little data now on infections, @ONS survey shows #Omicron cases fall (except maybe N Ire) positivity ~6% Wales, 4% other home nations
- falls in every age (good news after Jan high primary school infections) & falls in major cities first eg London
Hospital admissions fall & number still in hospital accumulating wave after wave since June should at last decline in next weeks…

🚨 England suffers one-hour 🚑 delays

🚨 over 1k deaths/week involving #covid —> still relatively high so #CovidIsNotOver by any means
