2/18. 📢GOOD NEWS: #COP27 has established a #LossAndDamage fund! Following courageous and consistent championing for 30+ years by countries on the frontlines of the #ClimateCrisis. This is a historic moment that sets us on a pathway to #ClimateJustice.
3/18. During this time, climate-vulnerable countries were supported by the tireless efforts of #CivilSociety who have and will continue to demand that polluters #PayUp4LossAndDamage. We’ve put our heart and soul into this for decades now and we are not stopping anytime soon!

The response from the global north has been to try and fob off the united global south demand for loss & damage finance, with some bullshit called the "Global Shield"
European countries are already (re)directing money into the Shield, preempting the call here at #COP27 for an actual fund for loss and damage
1/ An honest thread on my #COP27 experience to date with 4 days left!!!
2/ This is a dystopian COP. The fragile trust between developed and developing further erodes as does the trust of citizens to their governments.
3/ Developed countries have sickeningly show that they do not care about the poor and marginalised citizens of the developing world as they challenge equity whilst speaking of urgency and vulnerability in the same breath. I am so disappointed.

2/12.We've been following the discussions on “matters relating to funding arrangements responding to #LossAndDamage associated with the adverse impacts of #ClimateChange, including a focus on addressing #LossAndDamage” which we are calling funding arrangements for #LossAndDamage.
3/12. At #COP26 in #Glasgow, the G77 and China called for the establishment of the Glasgow #LossAndDamage Finance Facility. In support of this demand, civil society has been calling for a #LossAndDamageFinance facility ever since.

2. You now agree "in all honesty" that the most important thing to do is to mitigate to prevent #LossAndDamage, and the next most important thing is to help people adapt.
3. But, the graph clearly shows that the US failed to reduce its CO2 emissions, since @UNFCCC in 1992.

4. US gave 1 of US$3b of #ClimateFinance committed to @theGCF for #mitigation & #adaptation - nowhere close to its fair share.
5. Since 2013, I've seen the US blocking every single discussion on #LossAndDamageFinance, by arm-twisting and threatening developing nations.
