1/ It’s ironic, I came across an email I wrote almost 3 years ago when I was first pushing for a “Study on atherosclerosis in LMHRs”. For that first 1.5 years I tried to raise interest and money from inside the system. Some of these details I’ll go into with the book eventually..
2/ Not at all calling anyone out — just noting that it took me a while to realize it was likely a dead end.

For almost all of them, the answer to this question was already known: High LDL LMHR = high atherosclerosis

(And FWIW, it’s possible they’re right— we’ll soon see...)
3/ Then I had the crazy idea to start a charity and announce at #LowCarbHouston in Oct 2019 that we’re going to just try to straight up raise the money to do this study through crowdfunding.

And you know what?

The community stepped up.

1/ Reeeeeally happy to see @ChrisMasterjohn's opinion addressing Lp(a) regarding its relevance in causality of CVD, particularly with regard to genetic influence on baseline levels. @siobhan_huggins did a presentation on this at #LowCarbHouston

@ChrisMasterjohn @siobhan_huggins 2/ As with LDL-P, we feel it's relevant to disentangle three major components that influence Lp(a) levels: (1) genetic baseline, (2) disease-induced influence, and (3) metabolic influence

(1)- has surprisingly little study
(2)- generally assumed
(3)- little to no focus
@ChrisMasterjohn @siobhan_huggins 3/ These three are extremely important to consider individually, particularly the metabolic, as @siobhan_huggins has demonstrated multiple times just how rapidly she can alter her Lp(a) numbers to follow the same Inversion Pattern that impacts LDL-C cholesterolcode.com/tandem-experim…

1/ Update on experiment idea.

As it turns out, there's quite a bit of difficulty in macro matching a predominantly avocado meal to a predominantly chicken and cheese meal. (Roughly matching fat, protein, and carb ratios)...
2/ Because avocado has so little protein (around 4g each!), there has to be a 2nd source for it (or multiple) that are protein rich. Ideally, I'd use other things in the burrito (as was shown) such as black beans. But this then adds a lot more carbs...
3/ Which means I'll need the chicken/cheese side to have more carbs to match. But that source of carbs needs to be low in protein for the offset, and I'd prefer to avoid refined carbs, of course. So I came up with a new idea, but I'll need a little time to prepare for it...

1/ 🚨Game Change in Houston🚨

While this is certainly unprecedented for me, I've requested @eatmostlyfatali allow me to change my talk at #LowCarbHouston to accommodate some Big Announcements I will soon be able to share, and he's accepted.
2/ In many ways, this will be unlike any talk I've done before or will likely do again. It will be much more like a TED talk, with a lot less slides and a lot more concise statements, summarizing my work to date and some key considerations I'd like to share.
3/ All of which will tie in nicely to the announcements, and some very important next steps.

As they say... it's a blessing to live in interesting times...

1/ Epiphany

Sometimes something big hits you during a dark moment.

The last few days have been challenging for me at a personal level for reasons I won’t go into, but while traveling back home on the plane tonight, my Deeper Engineer kicked in with a new, grand solution...
2/ A big strategy of mine is trying to figure out how to “next level” discussions between opposing opinions regarding lipids, low carb, and risk- trying to figure out the best ways to bring people together productively. But this idea is giving me a new perspective on the approach
3/ Sorry to be a little cryptic, but for this moment, the what isn’t as important as the how. Sometimes the biggest ideas come at the least expected times.

I’ll share more on this new chapter after I confirm a few things privately...
