New from me @TheSpectator:

Newly-Independent #AZSEN @kyrstensinema's use of @actblue directly violates the platform's policy that it is ONLY for Democrats

It's huge trouble for Independent Sens. @BernieSanders and @AngusforMaine #VTSEN #MESEN

Let's be clear from the onset:

@ActBlue is ONLY for Democrats...as it makes clear on its own website.

@kyrstensinema, @BernieSanders, and @AngusforMaine are NOT Democrats #azsen #vtsen #mesen

If you're even passingly familiar with my reporting, you'll know that I've covered @ActBlue's whimsical and nonsensical policies for years

We talked about @kyrstensinema specifically on @newsmax last week with @JohnFBachman and @BiancaDLGarza

My current Maine CD #s w/@DecisionDeskHQ data:

Pres.
ME-1: 59.2% Biden, 38.0% Trump
ME-2: 51.4% Trump, 45.6% Biden

#MESen
ME-1: 48.0% Gideon, 45.5% Collins
ME-2: 58.5% Collins, 34.9% Gideon

Biden crushed it in ME-1, kept ME-2 close. Collins crushed it in ME-2, kept ME-1 close.
The CDs have drifted further apart. I thought of the 2014 gov race. LePage lost ME-1 by 2.4% but carried ME-2 by 12.9% -- 15.3% gap. Collins lost ME-1 by about that same margin, but won ME-2 by almost 25% (tbf she's from there, and LePage was running against its sitting rep).
Collins got about the same 206K votes in both districts. Gideon got 218K in ME-1, but only 123K in ME-2.

Health care clash in #MESen debate.

Gideon knocks Collins for being on all sides of the issue—voting against ACA then voting for repeal under Obama then voting against repeal under Trump.

Collins criticizes Gideon for backing a public option, says it’ll lower hospital payments. ImageImage
Sara Gideon says she supports Joe Biden for president and challenges Susan Collins to say who she favors.

Collins dodges.

“I don’t think that the people of Maine need my advice on whom to support for president.”

(The senator has not said who she intends to vote for this fall.) Image
Susan Collins talked a lot about co-authoring the PPP program at tonight’s Maine Senate debate, taking credit for saving jobs in Maine during the pandemic.

@SenatorCollins: ‘Sarah has been very critical of my vote for Justice Kavanaugh. I have to ask her, would she have voted for Justice Roberts?’

@SpeakerGideon: ‘I’d have to study that.’

@SenatorCollins: ‘She’s ducking the question.’
.@SpeakerGideon: ‘I’d like to ask Sen Collins who she thinks should be leading this country? She has neglected to answer that question.

@SenatorCollins: ‘I don’t think the people of Maine need my advice on whom to vote for for president.’

NEW: @AmyMcGrathKY's campaign says its national TV ads have helped her raise millions in her #KYSen bid. (Setting aside the current primary) I explored whether the fundraising strategy could be replicated (Looking at you, #SCSen).

More (and a thread!): morningconsult.com/2020/06/18/mcg…
McGrath's national buying started out as an experiment, her campaign manager told me. They had the resources, so why not? Low risk, high-potential reward. The response? #KYsen morningconsult.com/2020/06/18/mcg… Image
.@Team_Mitch is an easy target for national Democratic activist energy -- his #KYSen rival in '14 raised a ton of money, too -- due in part to his large, and almost totally negative name ID from the national Dem base. @LindseyGrahamSC comes in second. morningconsult.com/2020/06/18/mcg… Image

1/4.@SenatorCollins over 200 pieces of legislation including protecting for DREAMers, gun control and health care legislation is sitting on @senatemajldr's desk awaiting a vote. He is interfering w/Senate business & you are silent.

mainepublic.org/post/susan-col…
2/4An impeachment inquiry was begun because Trump asked another country to interfere in our election and because he is under investigation for a dozen other impeachable offenses. You refuse to comment on the scope of the investigation and his behavior. This is intolerable.
3/4 Now you are 'concerned' that impeachment will interfere with Senate business. If you were truly concerned about the disruption of business you would have called on @senatemajldr to hold a vote on legislation passed by the House.

I think one can be in favor of an official impeachment inquiry while also respecting the dilemma Nancy Pelosi faces.

She knows that Donald Trump is a criminal, yet she needs to hold on to the House in the next election.
Nobody fought harder than Speaker Pelosi to take back the House.

She knows that a Democratic House is all that stands in the way of the right-wing destroying this country for a century in this era of Trump.

With climate change and healthcare these are life-and-death stakes.
And right now Speaker Pelosi foresees a plausible future in which the impeachment of Donald Trump backfires on Democrats and results in Donald Trump's re-election, a Republican House, a Republican Senate, and a 6-3 Supreme Court.

It's a frightening thought.

Senate Republicans and @realDonaldTrump continue to attack the Affordable Care Act. Now the Trump administration is trying to strike the entire ACA down. These Republican senators (all are up for re-election) are not taking your access to health care seriously:
David Perdue (R-GA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Cory Gardner (R-CO) have voted over and over again to risk protections for pre-existing conditions and make health care coverage more expensive. #gasen #ncsen #cosen
John Cornyn (R-TX) has voted over and over again to risk protections for pre-existing conditions and make health care coverage more expensive. And don’t forget, Cornyn was in charge of rounding up the votes to dismantle the ACA in 2017. #txsen

Since a lot of people are now suddenly noticing #MESen polls and how difficult defeating Susan Collins could be, let's discuss a few important things that we need to understand going into that election.
First: name recognition is absolutely everything. Collins is one of the most well-known people in Maine, she has a well-established brand, and that counts for a lot. It isn't going to be easy to shift public attitudes about her.
Second: Maine is a rare case of a state with millions of what we might call "true independents". In a lot of states, most "independents" are just people in the out-party who don't want to admit that to their neighbors. In Maine, people are really independents for the sake of it.
