122.03/ The first #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight of 5783 is the classic grim crime thriller "Batman"... actually, sorry, it's the camp classic "Batman (1966)". Why? Because it's referenced so often by later comedies & it's part of their education, of course.

Too many #Mets fans are afraid of success, a thread 🧵

We put up billboards to “Sell the Team” & they did!

Wilpons are gone. Cohen is here. It’s different. But some of you refuse to believe it. You think your misery makes you a better fan. It doesn’t.

We wished for consistent success. To play meaningful games. To be in the race. It’s happening now. They’re winning & on their way to becoming a top 5 org.

Instead of enjoying it, embracing the pressure, you wait for the other shoe to drop.

#LGM #LFGM #MetsTwitter #Mets
We clamored for DECADES to be in on star players. We get 1 in Lindor, “he’s not good enough.”

We’re in on Soto (who’s even better), “he’s not worth it.”

You always want “the other guy.” Bc you live in a fantasy where there are no stakes.

I came out of retirement to look at the historical comps for a potential Juan Soto trade. #Mets #LGM #Soto

"Cabrera and Willis brought two consensus Top Ten prospects, plus other parts. Betts brought much less, two Top ~40 prospects and another piece, because he was attached to Price’s $92 million price tag."
A really great insight--- who even HAS the prospects to deal in such a trade?

1/Tonight, for the 17th time in the last 50 years, the #StanleyCup champion returns to defend their crown. This time, the #TBLightning are going for that rare feat - a three-peat and #dynasty status.
2/Three-peats and dynasties themselves are relatively rare. Below is a tour of the dynasties from the last 50 years starting with the 1974 Oakland #Athletics completing a three-peat with a 4-1 win over the #Dodgers with this home run.
3/ In 1979, the #CanadiensMTL completed their second four-peat, winning 4-1 over the New York Rangers. #StanleyCup #Dynasty

97.02/ #ShavuaTov everyone. My wife texted from Israel that she got positive PCR test when she landed in Israel - one day before they rescinded that requirement! She's asymptomatic, thank God, but I just don't know how it could've been avoided b/c the 'rona is rampant y'all.
97.03/ It was in the 90s today and my downstairs A/C broke days ago and I can't get a guy here until Tuesday. I told them they can prioritize others because my upstairs A/C works, Thank God, so it's not a safety issue for us. But I wouldn't mind it getting fixed soon.

96.03/ It's really this simple. And b/c it's actually this simple, it's clear anti-voters don't understand citizenship & shared responsibility like I do.

They're like anti-vaxers that way. In this way too: both threaten all our lives when they opt out.

94.02/ Health update: still no symptoms from my bout with COVID except for general irritability but it's impossible to know if it's different from my normal state. Isolation is lonely (big, if true) but my overall emotion is fear of making someone else sick. Dread is the worst.
94.03/ I see the #Mets won (this is a fun season so far, especially since I'm not the one getting hit by fastballs in the head) and the #NYR won and are ready for the playoffs. Best of all is post-#NFLDraft Sat. night when I get to see all the gifts my team gave me as a fan. #LGM

1/ Reflections on the final #NFL week, esp. related to my team, the #Steelers. We needed a narrow set of circumstances to make it into the playoffs: (1) beat our hated rival (BAL) on the road (2) the worst team must beat a playoff bound one (JAX vs IND) & (3) one more tiny thing
2/ The tiny thing was for the Raiders & Chargers not to tie. Ties are very rare; only one this season (#Steelers, of course, because ugh). This should have been so unlikely not to even be a worry. But I'm a sports fan, ruined by years of #Mets watching; I knew not to relax. From the Order of the Stick, https://www.giantitp.com/comics
3/ Of the three events, the tie was the least likely, then the Colts losing to the hapless Jaguars, and the "easiest" (very hard) step would be for the Steelers to beat the Ravens. We were terrible on the road, the Ravens were better than us, so it wasn't great odds.
