1. Two fascinating reports from 2 different @CDCgov journals today on #monkeypox acquisition via needlestick injuries. The takeaway message for me: If you are a HCP & you have a sharps injury involving MPX, you probably want to get vaccinated right away.
2. The first report came out in #MMWR. A Florida nurse who was using a syringe to extract fluid from a suspected #monkeypox lesion pricked her finger, drawing blood. She got the first of 2 doses of Jynneos within 15 hours & only developed 1 lesion. cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/7…
3. The 2nd report, in @EIDjournal, is about a Portuguese doctor who had a similar needlestick injury while sampling a suspected #monkeypox lesion. There was no bleeding, he thought his glove was intact, and he didn't report the exposure. He was not vaccinated.
Great new study on #HEPA air cleaners by Lindsley et al. out today via @CDCMMWR: masks reduced aerosol by 72%, HEPA by 65%, together by 90%.
Conclusions are consistent with messages for months, but important that #CDC amplifying this strategy.

2/ "The use of masks without air cleaners reduced the aerosol exposure of the receivers by 72%, and the use of air cleaners without masks reduced the exposure by up to 65%. When used together, the HEPA air cleaners and masks reduced exposure to respiratory aerosols by up to 90%." 
3/ "These findings suggest that the use of portable HEPA air cleaners and universal masking can each reduce exposure to simulated SARS-CoV-2 aerosols in indoor environments, with larger reductions occurring when air cleaners and masking are used together."

I feel for restaurant owners & workers. I honestly can't imagine the difficulty through the pandemic. But the challenge & risk is legitimate.
