This week we draw our second run of the #MOOC to a close, & would like to take some time to reflect on some of the successes.
Firstly, we were delighted at the international reach of the MOOC & being able to network with teachers from every inhabited continent! 1/5 RT @soper_mr Image
We have now had over 3,415 teachers from across the world as participants on the #MOOC, in partnership with @yadvashem! We are so pleased that the Centre’s research & resources has been able to reach such a huge number of teachers in the #globalclassroom 2/5 RT Image
Centre staff @hmccord78 & @soper_mr joined @yadvashem colleagues @Sandrachinos & Asaf to teach on the course, joining lively conversations on fundamental questions of Holocaust history & pedagogy. 3/5 RT Image

Excited to hear @thejuanpinto present "Exploring How Learners Integrate Personally Meaningful Issues in a Project-Based MOOC" in this session today at 4:10 pm. @UMichiganAI @cquintana See abstract in thread 1/n

..the course's subject matter. Many learners chose to base their final projects on applications of computational thinking that address challenges they face in their personal lives, including the COVID-19 pandemic, carrying an individualized sense of importance and... 3/n

We compared discussion posts on an open forum (edX), where learners can read responses of others before replying with posts on a locked forum (Coursera), where learners must respond to prompt before being able to view responses of others. #MOOCs @UMichiganAI
We found that posts on an open forum tended to be incomplete, more persuasive in tone, with some showing evidence of reflection. On a locked forum, posts tended to be complete, more assertive in tone, and exhibited a diversity of ideas through responses.
In open forums, learners may use posts to give a complementary perspective and not feel the need to repeat what others have said (thus not directly addressing prompt). Aware of others in the forum, learners use posts to share a reflection or persuade others of their POV.

Thread: The @OpenClassrooms story: Teaching tomorrow’s skills w/ @m_nebra, Cofounder 🔖
We were honoured to have Mathieu at @_TheFamily with @emiliebmaret!
Here are the key stories & learnings of this fireside chat 👇
#edtech #education #MOOC #onlinecourses
1/ Openclassrooms started in 1999 as a side project out of frustration bcs he struggled finding resources online to make a website.
The courses were always free.
They monetized 1st through ads but it prevented people from learning.
So they focused on a subscription model.
2/ About moving from learning skills to learning jobs 👉
They listened to people. When they wanted books, they did it. Projects? Mentorship? Diploma? They did it.
@m_nebra also always did things by himself (giving online courses, being a mentor).
