So I made it to the end of #MagnusArchives by @TheRustyQuill and I need to say some things!

(Don't worry, no spoilers)
I found Magnus after some frustrating experiences with other horror podcasts.

Any show telling a new written story every episode is taking on a monumental challenge. Especially with horror.
Horror, really good horror, is a delicate thing. There are many of points of failure.

Every episode needs a compelling story, carefully paced introduction of ideas, a well crafted atmosphere, a reason to care about the characters, and good performers to deliver everything.

Okay then, everybody. It's hayfever season, and social distancing didn't stop being important just because our government are money-grubbing moral vacuums.

Still, though. Fuck it! Let's go for a walk around a public gardener.

It's #MagnusArchives Episode 5.11 - "The Gardener".
First of all, though, a content warning. I'm going to touch on the topics of body-image issues, eating disorders and self-harm. I'm not in a position to speak on these as an expert, so I won't be lingering on them, but still; bear that in mind. #MagnusArchives
So, this one is fun. It's kind of impressive how the garden idea is simultaneously a nicely ludicrous situation to put Jared Hopworth in, and also a completely fitting metaphor for the domain of the god he worships. #MagnusArchives

Hello, presumed humans. Time once more for a walk through dark places, with this week's #MagnusArchives.

Well, I say "walk". More of a sit-down this time around. Still, at least no-one's sitting comfortably.

Nevertheless, I shall begin. It's Episode 5.10: "Recollection".
No sense in beating around the bush on this one: what I find most interesting about this episode is the implications in the fact it doesn't really work for me. #MagnusArchives
By which I mean I suspect me not really getting on with this episode says far more about me than it does anything else. #MagnusArchives

Wednesday once more! That means a wander through dark, fearful places.

This time we're focussing on fires in apartment blocks, so we break the run of accidentally political pieces with one that's very deliberately political.

It's #MagnusArchives Episode 5.09 - "Fire Escape"
I gotta agree with Martin here; fire is absolutely bloody *awful*. It's not my biggest fear - The Corruption and The Buried haven't been shifted from their top spots... #MagnusArchives
...But it's probably the most *common* fear that affects my life, insofar as "What if this burns me?" appears as a thought rather more often than "What if I'm buried alive/get eaten by beetles?". #MagnusArchives

Ahoy-hoy, fellow travellers. It's Wednesday evening, which means we're taking a few more steps towards Chelsea's own Towering Tower of Supernatural Snoops and Busybodies.

Still, it turns out there's worse roads to be taking.

It's #MagnusArchives Episode 5.08 - "Roots".
The End's domain is one of those I've been most looking forward to visiting. Obviously I'm keen to wander the lands of The Lonely and The Vast for my own twisted reasons, and I'm sure The Web has had something special laid on for us. #MagnusArchives
But The End is unique among the powers in that a world of deathless horror actually works to make it less scary. Even for those who wouldn't consider death a release at this point, it's no longer a pressing concern. What can that mean for a power? #MagnusArchives

Evening, presumed humans! It's Wednesday once more, and that means #MagnusArchives.

This week, we're filling some blanks in the back-story, as that there Archivist traipses through the life, times and personnel files of one Gertrude Robinson.

It's Episode 4.07 - "Curiosity".
Before we get on to Jon and Martin's predecessors, though, let's talk about their relationship. #MagnusArchives
It's rather fun how Jon's boundless new terror-powers are being framed here as an issue to be navigated within their relationship. #MagnusArchives
