With #MahaShivaratri coming up this week, thread on Shaiva Kshetras in Odisha, a state where I had stayed for 4 years, and has some of the most magnificient Shiva Temples in India.
The capital Bhubaneshwar itself gets it's name from one Shiva's names "Tribhubaneshwar", meaning Lord of the 3 Worlds, and is also called as Ekamra Kshetra, as it's believed Shiva meditated under a tree with one mango here. The city is famous for it's Shiva temples.
The magnificient Lingaraja Temple said to have been built by Yayati Kesari and dates to the 10th century. Located over an area of 25,000 sq ft, the temple is marked by it’s huge tower soaring to 180 feet and which is elaborately carved with various sculptures. Image

Chandramauleshwar Linga:

This is the splendid lingam, worshipped by Lord Sri Rama. Agastya Maharshi worshipped this Lingam, given to him by Varada Muni. It was later handed over to Sri Matha by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. #Mahashivratri
A very happy and blessed #Mahashivratri.
Lingam, in Hinduism, is a votary object that symbolizes lord Shiva & is revered as an emblem of generative power. The image below is of Chandramauleshwar Lingam worshipped by Sri Rama, Rishi Agasthya and Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankarachaya!
The sixteenth scar is Akshaya; unending and inexhaustible. That is ever-present in the head of lord Shiva. The lunar-line is clearly, naturally, in the head of Chandramauleshwar. So it is the only appropriate Chandramauleshwar lingam in the world. #Mahashivratri

Significance of Lord Shiva’s Damru

Damru symbolizes the Universe that is always expanding and collapsing at the same time. Begins with an expansion it collapses and then it re-expands, this is the process of creation.

Notice your heartbeat, it is not just one straight line but it is a rhythm going up n down. The whole world is nothing but rhythms;energy rising n collapsing to rise again. So the damru signifies that.Notice shape of the damru, from expansion it collapses and again expands #Shiva Image
The darmru is also a symbol of sound. Sound is rhythm and sound is energy. The whole universe is nothing but a wave function, it is nothing but rhythms. What does quantum physics say?
