#OTD the second and final game of the #Manitoba provincial senior men's hockey championship was played between the champions of the City League - the Winnipegs ('Pegs) and the champions of the Manitoba League - the Falcons.
The series was a two game aggregate, meaning the team with the most goals after two games was the champion. The Falcons held a commanding lead having beat the 'Pegs 5-0 during the first game; all goals scored by star center Frank Fredrickson.
The outcome was never in doubt, and the speedy Icelanders sailed to a dominating 10-1 victory in Game 2 for an aggregate score of 15-1!

This is interesting. Take a look at when mask mandates ended in the provinces, and the trend of hospitalizations for Covid-19 in Canada.

First up: Alberta and Saskatchewan, ending mask mandates Feb. 26 and Feb. 28, respectively. Mask mandates end just before the next wave. 1/6
Next, British Columbia. Mask mandates end March 11 2022. Right at the trough of the previous wave and at the beginning of the next. 2/6
Manitoba, New Brunswick and Newfoundland end mask mandates March 14 and March 15, once again choosing the exact bottom of the trough of the previous wave. What amazing timing! 3/6

Hey @Folklorama, how do you feel by banning the words “war” and “Heroyam Slava / Glory to Heroes” in your festival this year? Especially in Ukraine-Kyiv Pavilion?

@Deborah_Bowers @mmmaiello
Every year thousands of Ukrainians perform, sponsor, volunteer and build the audience for Ukrainian Pavilions as well as other pavilions. Millions of Ukrainians flee the war, and more than 35k landed in Canada. Is this the treatment and support we deserve?! @Folklorama
We were shocked to see the pictures of unruined Mariupol, Luhansk, Donetsk and Chernihiv as the visit card of Ukraine in the Ukraine-Kyiv Pavilion exhibition and to read the presentation of theatres and factories that do not exist anymore.

#Manitoba #Canada has an abundance of clean renewable hydro from its 15 hydroelectric generation stations.

This province is great for #Bitcoin and #cryptocurrency Mining.

Here's why hydropower #Bitcoin mining worked great together.

Each year, rain and snow replenish the water supply adding to the potential energy reserves of downstream generators.

Hydropower is efficient.

Hydropower dams convert about 90% of the energy in falling water into electrical #energy

By comparison, fossil-fueled plants lose more than half of the energy content of their fuel as waste heat and gases.

I'm simplifying these threads & will now show sliding window views of last 3 months of cumulative data for whole epidemic (except for province-specific summaries at end).

Rate of change graphs are provided for preceding 28 days to give a better sense of most recent dynamics.
Please note that though it's tempting to speculate about recent trends for long-term/personal care & retirement homes, reporting for this sector is VERY delayed & is almost always incomplete for preceding 3-4 weeks. The period of uncertainty is now highlighted in gray in graphs.

Hey #Manitoba I have some news about shipping #OilByRail through #Churchill.
@Arctic_Gateway bought the rail line which the #Omnitrax hucksters rode into the ground. Omnitrax, helmed by #CPC MP Merv Tweed, tried to ram oil shipments through Churchill in 2013.
1/
Scientists around the world raised their voice and said it's a terrible idea. First Nations living on the rail line said no damn way. @wildernews and yours truly spent a year explaining that this was stupid and dangerous.
In 2014 when Omnitrax dumped another train...
2/
...into the Saskatchewan River Delta, the largest freshwater delta in North America, they gave up their idea. The train they dumped into the wetland was luckily only carrying wheat so there was less environmental impact than if it would have been oil. It was 1 of many crashes.

#Canadians, political leaders in provinces with Wave 2 #COVID19 epidemics

I've been watching per capita DEATHS in #Canada & high income peer countries with pop >20M

Peers: 🇹🇼🇦🇺🇰🇷🇯🇵🇩🇪🇮🇹🇬🇧🇺🇸🇪🇸🇫🇷

Why?

Because #Canadian #COVID19 case fatality rate (% of confirmed cases who die) has remained stubbornly high.

It's the 3rd highest, after 🇮🇹🇺🇸.
We will soon reach the highest case fatality rate among our peer countries & we've barely started Wave 2.

Look at this graph. Watch it every day. #Canada is NOT doing ok

When we get #COVID19 more of us die than in Spain, France, the USA.

Please, please see this and act.

Manitoba's Health Minister called out the "motivation" of >200 doctors who wrote an open letter calling for stronger action: cbc.ca/news/canada/ma…

Remember @CameronFriesen called care home deaths "unavoidable"—let me explain how when it comes to #LTC he hasn't "got this".

Let's review the escalating #COVID19 catastrophe in the province's care homes.

There are 14 active #LTC home outbreaks and 38 cumulative resident deaths. Today the @redcrosscanada was called into Parkview Place and Maples, the two hardest hit homes: cbc.ca/news/canada/ma…

2/9
Earlier this year, @LTCcovid published international examples of measures to prevent and manage #COVID19 outbreaks in residential care and nursing home settings: ltccovid.org/wp-content/upl…

#Manitoba is failing miserably on almost every key measure.

For each #Province and #Territory in #Canada, here is the help that was offered to those living with #disabilities. This will include the #Federal help offered as well as any hoops #PWDs may have needed to jump through to get it and whether CERB was clawed back or not.
This is based on my own research, and if anyone sees anything I missed or may have gotten wrong please let me know.
Let's start with #Yukon
According to several articles, eligible families on #disability supports we're to get up to $400 to help with costs until August. Unknown what eligibility was.
#CERB was exempt from clawbacks.
