Thought I’d show some Black joy from this year’s #MatchDay. Because sometimes we don’t see that enough.

And there IS joy.

Especially on this day.

The ancestors are surely rejoicing. I know I am.

I think the words of Jill Scott will say it best. . .

“I'm taking my freedom
Pulling it off the shelf
Putting it on my chain
Wear it around my neck

I'm taking my freedom
Putting it in my car
Wherever I choose to go
It will take me far . . .”

“I'm livin' my life like it's golden

Livin' my life like it's golden

Livin' my life like it's golden

Livin' my life like it's golden

Livin' my life like it's golden, golden . . .”

I had imagined what this day would be like. Played it out in my head and saw various iterations of me exploding in celebration.

In some versions, I was doing the running man or, quite literally, running in triumphant circles, #MatchDay envelope in hand.

"Wooo hooo!" Image

I also saw these visions of me quietly weeping, one hand extended to the heavens in gratitude. My lips quietly murmuring prayers of thanksgiving.

See, I was my ancestors' wildest dreams. And not even just my enslaved ancestors but the Jim Crow survivors who raised me, too.

So, yeah. This was about to be big.

I was even on the #MatchDay party committee. And since we were broke, that meant soliciting donations from faculty & parents & anybody who felt proud enough of us to shell out a few coins.

Which, fortunately for us, was a lot of folks. Image

1/ Many folks have messaged me asking for guidance regarding #USMLE, so I figured I might create a thread on how I was able to take all exams (except step3) while still in #medicalschool.
The following 🧵 is what I found useful for me, obviously doesn't apply to everyone.
👇
2/ Disclaimer, I was an average #medicalstudent, no genius or prodigy.
I put in the extra effort and it paid dividends.
I graduated in Nov 2012, as an #IMG and matched into surgery in Mar 2013. If I can do it, so can you, just remember no shortcuts in life.
3/ The first time I heard of #USMLE was in Dec 2010, when my buddy was studying for it.
It was around that time I looked into studying for this "international exam" as I would falsely assume.
Once I did some digging, I realized, everyone has to take it to practice in the US.

#Matchday more than ten. The majority of titles including the recently launched Chinese-themed Luck and Fortune offer the max payout of 10,000 bet, meaning that a $5 stake can turn into a $50,000 bonanza.

As we get closer and closer to #MatchDay for #match2022 I have to admit... I don't talk much publicly about NOT matching into #EM last year. It was devastating. But I think it's important that we normalize the conversation around not matching... 🧵1/11
For many, not matching is the ultimate failure coming out of #medschool. Residency placement is what we were working toward. Schools advertise on the backs of their match rate. Being left empty handed after match AND the scramble is a lonely place. You question everything. 2/11
You try for an open categorical, prelim, or transitional spot. Naturally, we're told those are the preferred options. Find a prelim surgery spot, they said—to keep your "procedure skills" up. Find a transitional year or prelim year anywhere. Get an MPH. Not tons of options. 3/11

Flutterwave is now like a big tech in the Nigerian tech space.

Hopefully, you guys will be able to have multiple (even differentiated) products running concurrently, effortlessly.

I repeat, "Give @getBarterApp more Rocketfuel" already!
That app is tooo #Swanky to still be unknown by people yet. It's excessively underrated!

Don't know if it's the marketing aspect or something, but action needs and must be taken!

Isn’t it hard to make room in our brains for ANYTHING that isn’t #COVID19 related right now?

Well. For wellness’ sake, I say we must.

And so. I bring you a thread of random, very happy photos snapped from #MatchDay celebrations’ past.*

These three happy M4s are now board certified in Anesthesiology, Otolaryngology, and Cardiology.

They were in my very first small group. This photo makes me happy to this day. ☺️

This M4 was also a module leader for the M1 Cardiology Module. What a happy surprise it was for this future pediatrician to walk in to decorations from the M1s!

Kindness rocks. Image
