1/11 Congrats to those who matched! I tweeted about an inpatient pocket card set in 2020 and got great feedback. Here is the result of a big overhaul: bit.ly/pocketcardset

Let's review what's inside!

3/11 First up is a pre-rounding checklist. Be systematic and read all of the notes in your patient’s chart (interdisciplinary care is critical).

H/t @nickmmark for the idea to use a QR code to maintain an updated version! This QR code also has some additional resources. Image

Feeling surprisingly overwhelmed with emotion thinking about #MatchDay2021 and seeing all of the amazing new physicians marching to different programs all across the country, but especially in EM. I’m so thrilled to see the new faces of our specialty.

Know that you stand on the shoulder of giants and have so much to be proud of about this field, and so much to look forward to as well. Also know that you will be giants of the future of this specialty, that we have a bright future, and you can help chart our path.
I re-listened to this episode of @empulsepodcast about this history of EM and reflected on where we have been, and now seeing the news faces that will be joining us, thinking about where we are going.

With match day approaching, I have some reflections.

First, I will say that even though the match is in many ways an absolutely WILD system that assumes doctors are unattached people (read: historically men) with the enormous privilege of dropping everything for their job--
When it comes to "making a match", I do think it works.

It is important to remember that all matches in life are two way streets. When it comes to success, relationships are everything, and there is no substitution in the success formula for the concept of BEING WANTED.
Wherever you end up, the algorithm put you there because you and that program saw something in EACH OTHER. Your best chance of thriving is in a place that WANTS you to be there as much as you want them. This symbiosis is essential to cultivating your potential and your happiness.

Can you imagine having to apply and pay $900 for a certification of your medical degree every year if you don't match? and taking an English proficiency test (OET) every 2 years? Well that's exactly what is occurring right now under the latest update of the @ECFMG_IMG . 1/6
ECFMG certification is how international medical graduates validate their medical degrees in the USA, to apply for the match. In order to acquire it we need to take Step1, Step2 and Step2 CS. Since the latter was removed, the @ECFMG_IMG needs to find new ways to certify us. 2/6
The new update from the @ECFMG_IMG states that the certification will be valid for one year and be permanent only after "successfully completes the first year of ACGME-accredited training", meaning if you don't match you would have to apply for certification with fees >$900.3/6
