We didn't learn this in school, but German unions & the their members were the main source of resistance to Hitler.
They didn't vote for Nazis, they fought them in the streets.
That's why abolishing unions was basically the first thing Hitler did.

Hitler outlawed strikes and collective bargaining, and created a fake union called the German Labour Front.
When they showed up and tried to participate in the International Labor Conference, they were denied credentials & called out for anti-semitism.

This #MayDay2020 we remember the workers that lost their lives striking for better pay and working conditions. This is just one such story: Chiquola Mill Strike
Chiquola Mill is remembered today as the site of a tragic event known as Bloody Thursday or the Uprising of ’34. That is the year the United Textile Workers of America organized strikes at several plants along the East Coast.
In Honea Path, 300 union members – both men and women – gathered to protest low wages and poor working conditions exacerbated by the Depression. The strikes were ordered on Labor Day, three days prior.

Hari Pekerja yg kita sambut pada 1hb Mei setiap tahun sebenarnya disambut buat pertama kali pada tahun 1921 oleh golongan Anarkis di Ipoh.
Sebelum kemunculan kelompok anarcho-punk di Malaysia pada era '90an, kelompok Anarkis dari China dah mula bertapak di Malaya seawal 1908.

Marsinah, mungkin namanya sudah banyak terdengar bagi sebagian orang terutama di kalangan para pekerja buruh Indonesia. Ketika hari buruh 1 Mei pun, namanya sering disebut2 begitu pula ketika hari HAM, fotonya pun tersebar dimana mana sebagai icon penuntut keadilan.
Ya, Marsinah adalah contoh kecil dari bentuk perlawanan rakyat menengah bawah kepada penguasa yang berakhir dengan hilangnya nyawa seseorang. Kasusnya dengan segala intrik didalamnya masih terus dikenang dan dianggap sebagai titik hitam dalam penegakan HAM di Indonesia.

The organisers of this ‘Black Flag' protest were required to mark spots for people to maintain distance from each other and provide face masks.
