UH-1 IROQUOIS “HUEY” HELICOPTER - END OF THE VIETNAM WAR 50TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION

The Vietnam War’s most iconic helicopter, the UH-1 Iroquois “Huey” was a ubiquitous transport and gunship which came to represent the conflict in the public’s imagination.

#Armyhistory
First introduced in the 1950s, the U.S. Army soon adopted the UH-1 helicopter for use in a variety of roles. Its original designation was "HU" for "helicopter, utility" (hence the sobriquet "HUey"), which was later changed to "UH" for "utility helicopter."

#USArmy @USArmy
The UH-1 and its variants were the backbone of the Army’s new airmobile doctrine and performed a variety of roles. These included close air support gunships, assault aircraft for infantrymen, basic transport functions, and "air ambulances" for medical evacuation.

You probably have seen the video of the 🇺🇦 soldier that was flown to 🇩🇪Germany for medical treatment 🚑❤️

These medical evacuations are organized by the EU 🇪🇺 and play and important part in saving Ukrainian lives. A small 🧵

@oryxspioenkop #Ukraine️

@oryxspioenkop These #Medevac operations are hardly known to the public. Time to change it!

In total no less than ➡️1277 patients have been flown to EU member states + Norway.

That’s a big number and as we can clearly see a joint effort by man countries: 🇩🇪🇫🇷🇮🇪🇮🇹🇩🇰🇸🇪🇷🇴🇱🇺🇧🇪🇪🇸🇵🇹🇳🇱🇦🇹🇳🇴🇱🇹🇫🇮🇵🇱🇨🇿
@oryxspioenkop About a third of those patients have been treated in 🇩🇪 while 🇪🇸🇮🇹🇱🇹🇵🇱🇳🇱 also do some heavy lifting.

But: Every single ICU hospital bed helps saving lifes and personally it makes me proud of the EU 🇪🇺to see how the European nations jointly help where help is urgently required.

good morning from unceded Darug lands☀️today on #Insiders are Guardian chief politics corro Sarah Martin, 9fax (The Age) economics writer Shane Wright and 9fax (AFR) economics editor John Kehoe. The interview is with shadow Treasurer Dr Jim Chalmers.
this thread is not fact checked. I block snitch-taggers. If that is a new term to you, google it.
opening spiel: it’s a critical week ahead.
What’s the Morrison perspective, skip? Well, the federal budget is the “last chance” for the Coalition parties to turn their electoral chances around. Speers calls Morrison government vote buying “a spending spree”. #Insiders

So for the many #Medevac refugees released from detention 6 months ago on 6 month bridging visas, these need to be renewed. But the application process requires @AlexHawkeMP and/or @karenandrewsmp to ‘lift the bar’ and allow them to submit the applications. 1/
Are the ministers so incompetent, irresponsible and unprofessional that they will allow the bridging visas to lapse before allowing these people to renew???
#auspol
Let’s be clear that the process is so convoluted that a lawyer is required in each and every application. 2/
Let’s also be clear that these people can’t legally work without a visa, so government ministers #HomeAffairs #Immigration are putting livelihoods at stake. Remember also that refugees on these bridging visas cannot access any #Centrelink or public housing. 3/

Peter Dutton is not telling the truth about why #Manus & #Nauru refugees were released from The Park Hotel #ParkonSwanston. Costs have never been a consideration when Home Affairs has chosen detention onshore or offshore for refugees. Here are some 2020 figures: /1
•This year’s budget reveals that costs will increase by more than $300m in 2020-21 despite significantly declining numbers of refugees & asylum seekers. Australia will spend roughly $4 million for each of fewer than 300 people remaining detained in PNG (ex #Manus) & #Nauru. /2
•This year the average cost of holding just one person offshore is significantly more than it would cost to allow everyone remaining in PNG and Nauru to live in the community in Australia. /3

THREAD:

Here is the Government’s legislative agenda for the winter Parliamentary sitting. Lots of worrying legislation in relation to migration and refugees from @PeterDutton_MP and @ScottMorrisonMP. pmc.gov.au/sites/default/…
As flagged, the Government will attempt to repeal the #MedeVac Laws which ensures sick people offshore can get the care they need in Australia.
Likewise, the Government has flagged reintroducing a 2016 Bill to prevent refugees who have been detained offshore ever coming to Australia, even if they are resettled elsewhere (eg USA). Read our submission here refugeecouncil.org.au/regional-proce…
