As w/Part 1, James is still on š„. Unpopular opinion: His "bathroom breaks" actually reflect a move toward maturity in him trying to take himself out of the picture when overwhelmed. He truly is a highlight of the season & Part 2 of the reunion develops that beautifully. 3/
I went to a "progressive" high school in Boston in the 90s. Their recent PR is more & more showy as far as big š unmasked faces in school & at alumni events incl. a BIG in-person tribute to a recently deceased teacher. š§µ 1/8 #MediaLiteracy #CultureIsOrdinary #StorytimeWithTamar
My comment on their social media page highlighting the unmasked students, faculty & alumni at the event included my condolences & pointed to the fact (for the unmasked + the folks with masks ON THEIR CHINS) that #CovidIsNotOver. Perhaps it wasn't the right moment to mention, 2/8
but a day school smack dab in the middle of Boston inviting EVERYONE to join them w/barely 3 ppl. who are masked in photos of the many participants shows terrible judgment/understanding of where we're at with #SARS & with #Community.

I see thereās some rage about media studies again. Shouting about how useless it is, comparing it to being an electrician or a plumber. As someone with a City & Guilds in Plumbing & Heating (qualified in 1991) & a PhD in Media Studies (awarded 2019) I have some skin in the game.
Plumbing is of immense value. There is an immediate and tangible benefit to it. Boiler broken? Pipe burst? Drain blocked? Call the plumber, they come and fix it and charge accordingly. They have a skill ā intellectual and practical - that many lack. For this, they charge a fee

@greg_jenner @el_hembo Is it in order to try to assert your own superiority? It smacks of ignorance and exposes surely some sort of fear.
What might that fear be? Fear that someone with a media grade is perhaps going to go into HE? get a degree? improve their social mobility & that of their loved ones?

@greg_jenner @el_hembo And the subject itself? Not āproperā? Never mind the idea that the actual study of the media is multi-disciplinary, like many of the arts and humanities. The parallels with English Literature (is that āproperā) are quite obvious... off the top of my head:
"#MediaStudies, what a mickey mouse subject, hur hur hur, amirite"

I know that for some viewers, this may have been their first introduction to #genderqueer & #nonbinary people or the concept of asking someoneās pronouns. Itās been happening in #queer & #feminist spaces for years. But this is mainstream. Majorly mainstream.
And for many genderqueer & non-binary folks, this may be the first time theyāve seen part of their experience represented on screen outside of smaller stage media*
