Excited to have several entries in The Katherine Schneider Journalism Award for Excellence in Reporting on Disability from 3 different publications.
Attention to #disabled journalists writing #disability stories is paramount when the CDC says 1 in 4 Americans has a disability.
Most often it is non-disabled people writing the stories of #disability and #disabled people, which means everything is seen through the lens not of disabled people but of non-disabled people viewing disability. Quite a different POV.
Just the way non-disabled people have reported on the primary and the candidates provides an entrée into what I mean: How many of the candidates are addressing THE largest minority in the country? Z E R O.
And one candidate, Marianne Williamson, has a complicated history on this.

While you're focused on a holiday surprise from #Mueller, the president of the United States and his lame duck Speaker have officially been working toward eviscerating the #ACA before #NancyPelosi steps in to save everyone's #healthcare.

Please call your reps & tell them NO.

I'm seriously ill--17M of us have #cancer; 131M have other chronic illnesses. This concerns me & you & people you love.
Like everything else, it's underhanded and under-the-radar.

"The Trump administration is urging states to tear down pillars of #AffordableCareAct, demolishing a basic rule that federal insurance subsidies can be used only by people buying health plans in marketplaces created under the law."

They want to take the #healthcare you need.

Tough medical day.

Many of you have very kindly asked how I am doing.

An additional diagnosis in recent weeks has been difficult. And I've had to fight with my health insurer for basic services they are now denying. This has made everything harder, of course.

I am hoping to postpone new surgery until January, so the holidays aren't wrecked for us. Not sure how that will go.

The best thing that's happened is #NancyPelosi's re-election. Anyone who has a chronic illness like #cancer cheered this. We can count on her protection.

The path to wellness should NEVER have to go through fear and fighting for care, but that's how it is for millions of Americans like me.

We need #MedicaidForAll. For now, protecting the #ACA is essential.

Thanks again for all your support.

In honor of #Medicaid's birthday, I'm going to do a quick thread on why I believe #MedicaidForAll makes a great deal more sense than #MedicareForAll. #Medicaid53
First, most #MedicareForAll proponents describe a health care program that looks a lot closer to Medicaid than it does to Medicare, in terms of benefits & cost-sharing.
This Vox piece from @singlepayertom and @_Middleman says #MedicareForAll should mean zero cost-sharing. Medicare doesn't work that way - Medicaid does. vox.com/the-big-idea/2…
