I’ve done a lot of genealogy for my family. We have military service members over the years on both sides, but it’s my mother’s side where I have ancestors who lost sons and grandsons in war, defending the US. Here are a few whom I am thinking about today. #MemorialDay2021 1/
In the Civil War an uncle and nephew, roughly the same age, left Iowa and went off to defend the Union. They died after battles at Miliken’s Bend and Vicksburg. 2/ ImageImage
Another distant uncle had come to the US as a child from Germany, when his family fled the draft and unrest in the Rhine valley. He served in the Civil War and died following the Siege of Corinth on his 19th birthday. #MemorialDay2021 3/ Image

On this #MemorialDay I love to share this video.

French caretakers take the sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy and scrub them into the letters to give them the brown/gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.
The sound on makes this more fulfilling.
Thank you for all the likes of sharing of this video. I post this every Memorial Day and Veterans Day in not just a tip of our caps to our soldiers, but also to educate many on a little known gem and pass on kindness.

This is what my Twitter feed is all about. Peace to all.

#MemorialDay2021 Let's talk about the origins of Decoration Day. In Race and Reunion, historian David Blight highlights the first Memorial Day. Founded by Black Americans, Decoration Day was held May 1, 1865 at a racetrack/ war prison where freedmen reburied Union soldiers. Image
They then held a ceremony to honor the 257 fallen soldiers (on this site in South Carolina) called "Martyrs of the Race Course." In the days prior, Black men built an enclosure around the burial ground & created a cemetery of neat rows to honor the US.
On the Morning of May 1, thousands of Black school children from the freedman schools marched along with roses for the fallen while singing "John Brown's Body."

Life is way too short to be fighting all the time. As for me, I think that's what most of the people who died in service would say.
They'd probably add, "why haven't you figured it out yet?"
(Figured what out?)

There's enough for everyone.
Stop hoarding money.
Share.
Our existence on this planet began without the knowledge we currently possess. Think of how this advanced knowledge/technology will serve we the people? Do you want good people in charge, or bad people in charge?
Get rid of the bad.
Replace them with good.
The world watches.
