I’ve been writing about my #perimenopause for a few years now. My essays have covered the physical as well as emotional and mental health impacts of this transition.

I will soon start power lifting & will be documenting that too! Until then 👇🏽 feministgiant.com/p/essay-menopa… #Menopause
Last year I started regular:
- strength training (for my bones)
- stretching (for my joints)
- walk for an hour (for my heart and anxiety)
- dance (for my heart)

But this year, I've been less consistent because I started traveling for work again.

For the coming year, I want to graduate myself from at-home weights to working with a trainer to power lift.

It is consistently recommended for those of us going through menopause. So yalla!

It's #WorldMentalHealthDay and #MenopauseAwarenessMonth.

One of the hardest impacts of #perimenopause for me has been anxiety. I've written about the ways it's kicked my fucking ass feministgiant.com/p/essay-fallin…
There have been mornings when I am overwhelmed with an impending sense of doom. And I wonder if my anxiety–brand new, I was never an anxious person–is my despair at that fuckery that once flummoxed younger me.

My #perimenopause has mostly had two settings
- beat someone up
- have a breakdown
Which is why I love the film Everything Everywhere All at Once so much: Evelyn beats many people up and has a breakdown of sorts. It is the perfect menopause allegory. #MenopauseAwarenessMonth
Everything Everywhere All at Once is the perfect menopause allegory film.

I don’t care if that’s not what The Daniels had in mind when they wrote and directed it. It’s art. It’s out there. And my menopause claims it! feministgiant.com/p/essay-the-me… #MenopauseAwarenessMonth
And I don’t know if Michelle Yeoh has ever talked about her #menopause transition. I don’t care, I love her. She’s 4yrs older than me so I’m claiming her too. It is enough for me that Evelyn gets to beat people up AND have a breakdown of sorts because fuck, yes please!

I'll be writing more about anxiety in my essay for Menopause Awareness Day later this month.

Meanwhile, I discuss it in my most recent essay on #menopause feministgiant.com/p/essay-menopa… #MenopauseAwarenessMonth
And this one is about vaginal/vulvar dryness feministgiant.com/p/moisturize-y… #MenopauseAwarenessMonth

If you’re wondering where along my menopause journey I am, it is far enough that if I hear a voice in my head saying "Oh my god, you can't write about that!" I WILL IN FACT WRITE ABOUT THAT. To mark #MenopauseAwarenessMonth, some thoughts on shamelessness.
When you are shameless, you cannot be shamed.

Few things are surrounded by more shame and silence than a cis woman who is no longer young, her vagina which is no longer wet, and her sex drive which is not supposed to exist. feministgiant.com/p/moisturize-y… #MenopauseAwarenessMonth
If I thought I needed to be brave to write about my 2 abortions,it is next level courage to admit to being that cis woman who is no longer young, whose vagina is no longer wet & whose sex drive is not supposed to exist.

So here I am looking shame in the eye, daring it to test me

October is #MenopauseAwarenessMonth.

I am “aware” of my menopause every day. To make up for the silence & taboo that ensures we know next to nothing about what happens to our bodies during this time, I'll be sharing some of my essays throughout the month.

If you've ever menstruated, you can go through #menopause, a point in life that marks 12 months without a menstrual cycle.

The time leading up to menopause is known as #perimenopause, and once you’ve reached the point of 12 months w/out a menstrual cycle, you are post-menopausal
It is not just cis women who experience menopause.

Remember non-binary people, trans men, and other gender non-conforming /expansive groups who also experience menopause and do so under even greater levels of silence and taboo.

I've long said I would write an essay for those of us who were raised with any version of "purity culture" and who are now going through the menopause transition. Here it is. #MenopauseAwarenessMonth
When I began to notice the impact of perimenopause on my vagina & sex drive, it bothered me more than hot flashes, no longer sleeping through the night, and changes to my digestive system.

It bothered me because I felt I was being robbed again feministgiant.com/p/moisturize-y… #Menopause
Not by menopause, which is “natural” (I rarely use that word because it's often employed by cis heteronormative patriarchy in the name of fuckery) but by an upbringing & socialization that instilled in me something that should be considered unnatural & which took me years to shed

It's Menopause Awareness Month. For those of us going through perimenopause, that would be every single day for quite a number of years.

What do Nefertiti and Bruce Lee have to do with my perimenopause? I explain! feministgiant.com/p/essay-perime… #MenopauseAwarenessMonth
To look honestly at our bodies as we age is to begin to understand what Bruce Lee meant when he said, “Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless — like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup,..Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." #Menopause
Earlier this year, I started posting photographs of myself on social media with the caption “#ThisIs53. It is not my birthday. I want you to see a 53 year old woman.”

I am now 54. I wanted to be seen. Not to be told, as I often have, that I don’t “look my age.” #Menopause Mona from the waist up with...
