[Thread] There's some interesting changes along the northern section of #Metrolink between Stephen's Green and Swords. Let's briefly look at them and the large decisions that have been made.
Big change is that the tunnel will now be single-bore and not twin-bore like before. This means one tunnel with the two trains side by side. This can be cheaper and provides more flexibility. It also means the tunnel boring site can be moved from Na Fianna lands to land near M50
Other big decision is that the metros will be fully automated with platform screen doors, similar to the Copenhagen metro. #Metrolink is modelled on the Copenhagen Metro 3 line in many places.

[Thread] Not upgrading the Green Line to metro as part of #Metrolink will be bad for pedestrians, cyclists, bus users, Luas Red Line in the city centre. Instead they are proposing to run 55m trams every 2 minutes on city centre streets, which is ambitious to say the least.
Competition for space in the city centre is always going to be high. We should be prioritising pedestrians and cyclists ahead of public transport. However, running 55m trams at every 2 minutes, sounds like we're going to be prioritising public transport.
It sounds like many Green Line trams will be turned around at Stephen's Green in order to avoid the mix traffic zones in the city centre. This makes the Green Line less useful for passengers.
