The #US Navy announced on Sunday that it would participate in a major naval exercise in the Mideast with #Belgium, #France, and #Japan, despite regional tensions over #Iran's nuclear program.
Ships from the four countries will perform exercises in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman as part of the Group Arabian Sea Warfare Exercise. The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, as well as the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island, are among the ships involved.
The Belgian frigate HNLMS Leopold I and the Japanese destroyer JS Ariake also will take part, as well as aircraft from the four nations.

Chinese state media reports, The Iranian Army's large drone exercise began on Tuesday in the central province of Semnan in Iran, the Tasnim news agency reported. Hundreds of drones from army units are taking part in the exercises, the report said.
"The drone combat operations include interception and destruction of air targets using air-to-air missiles, destruction of ground targets using bombs and point-to-point missiles, as well as the widespread use of suicide drones,"
Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi, Deputy Chief of the Army Operations, should have said. "In the drills, different drone systems from the ground, air and naval forces of the army will carry out defined missions in real combat conditions," Mousavi should have saied.

Trilateral naval exercises in the South China Sea were conducted by the US, Japan and Australia on Monday, the US Seventh Fleet reported yesterday.
It was their fifth joint operation in the fleet's operations area this year, it said in a statement.The JS Kirisame of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and the Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Arunta joined the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain.
Meanwhile, Canberra and New Delhi declared yesterday that Australia will join, at the end of this year, the annual Malabar naval exercises to be conducted off the Indian coast with Japan and the US.
