Phase 2 consists of teaching people how to do a nutrigenomics analysis for truly personalized supplementation. What is nutrigenomics and why do I think this step is important? (2/10)
Nutrigenomics explores how your genes interact with different foods and nutrients. It can inform you if you may benefit from different types, forms of supplements that improve mitochondrial function. (3/10)

Thread on #Magnesium and why it is fundamental for our #health. #micronutrients
..many people debate the various ratios of #macronutrients like #protein, #fat, and #carbohydrates in their diet to find their optimal health. Which is great as we are #bioindividuals but most miss out on #micronutrients like #vitamins and #minerals.
The way our bodies are able to use the #macronutrients is fully dependent on how our #enzymatic pathways are influenced by various #micronutrients. One of the most important amongst is #magnesium.

Owned by #kings, dukes & sultans, worn by Marie Antoinette, used to pay off a royal debt – and said to carry an ancient curse. It would have to be a #diamond. But not just any diamond. It’s the Hope Diamond, and it's from Guntur in #AndhraPradesh. 1/12 Image
The Hope Diamond is the world’s largest and most legendary blue gemstone. And equally remarkable is its tale, which begins in the famed Golconda Mines in Guntur. But it began life under a different name. 2/12
#gems #minerals
The diamond was discovered by an extraordinary #French adventurer and gems merchant, Jean Baptiste Tavernier, who visited #India in the mid-17th century. It was 112 carats, the size of a grown man’s fist, and it was called Tavernier’s Blue. 3/12 Image

#DidYouKnow that the Nassak #Diamond, one of the 20 greatest diamonds in the world, is named after the city of Nashik in Maharashtra? Emerging from the famed Golconda mines, it adorned the crown of Lord Shiva in the Trimbakeshwar #Temple near Nashik. 1/4
#jewellery #minerals
As with most of the world’s most valuable #gems, the Nassak too has a dramatic story. It was originally with the #Mughals, who acquired it during their conquest of Golconda in the 17th century. Then they surrendered it as war booty to the #Marathas. 2/4
The Nassak was probably donated to the Trimbakeshwar temple by the Peshwas. In 1817, it was removed by Peshwa Bajirao II, who kept it in his personal treasure. Bajirao II surrendered it to the #British, who seized it when they defeated the Marathas a year later. 3/4

Yesterday, @IEA gave a presentation to explain what we already know - we need a LOT of #metals & #minerals to "come clean" and regardless of timing as we are hooked on #oil & #gas for our modern lifestyle. In this thread, I'll share their slides & add some of mine...
2/ According to the @IEA, an EV requires 6x minerals and metals input of a conventional "Otto engine" car.

3/ That means, to meet climate goals, we will need a LOT of #metals & #minerals such as #lithium (not a big deal), #graphite (hmmm), #cobalt (that will be fun), #nickel (hard, easy one in Russia!), #rareearth (really hard) or #copper (too hard to mention below?)...

The World Bank says production of minerals and metals could increase 500% by 2050 to meet demand for #greentech and #cleanenergy.
The following thread is a quote from pubdocs.worldbank.org/en/96171158887…

#nspoli #cbpoli #novascotia #capebreton #mining #minerals Image
"Under a 2-degree scenario, production of graphite, lithium, and cobalt will need to be significantly ramped up by more than 450 percent by 2050—from 2018 levels—to meet demand from energy storage technologies."
#nspoli #cbpoli #greentech Image
"Though demand for some base minerals, like aluminum and copper, appears to be smaller in percentage terms, their absolute production figures are significant, at 103 million tons and 29 million tons by 2050, respectively."

We love getting questions about #mining, #minerals and #geology! We were asked about historical #gold mining in #Brookfield, #QueensCounty. Check out this thread!

#nspoli #novascotia #nshistory #cbpoli #capebreton
@GordonWilsonLNS @BernJordanMP @RegionofQueens @LHNOWnews ImageImage
While there were several mines in the #Brookfield #Gold District, almost all the gold produced came from the Brookfield mine operated by Wilbur L. Libbey, which was discovered in 1885.
#nspoli #novascotia #nshistory #cbpoli #capebreton Image
In July 1886, it was acquired by John McGuire and some American associates known as the #Brookfield Milling Company. Under McGuire's management a considerable amount of ore was mined and hauled to #PleasantRiver, #Lunenburg County, for milling.

We love getting questions about #mining, #minerals and #geology! We were asked about mining in Gays River:

#nspoli #cbpoli #novascotia #capebreton #nshistory @SeanFraserMP @LarryHarrisonPC #gold ImageImage
#Gold was discovered in Gays River, Colchester County, by George Gay and Berry Corbett on their adjoining farms in June 1862. Unfortunately, the pair initially charged exorbitant prices for accessing their properties which delayed prospecting and mining.
#nspoli #novascotia Image
In 1866, a small crusher was built but was not kept very busy. In 1869, a handful of tunnels and shafts were dug.

We love getting questions about #mining, #minerals and #geology! We were asked about #gemstones in #NovaScotia. Here’s our answer:

#nspoli #cbpoli #capebreton Image
Gemstones that are usually considered “precious stones” are diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. All other gemstones are considered “semi-precious” (i.e. agate, amber, amethyst, jade, pearl, etc.)
#nspoli #cbpoli #capebreton #NovaScotia Image
These definitions date from the 1800s and they are subjective, not scientific. There is not universal agreement with them, but we mention them to point out that there is usually a distinction made between precious and semi-precious stones.

Loonies weren't going to be loonies?!
The #loonie was introduced in 1987 but #Canada has had $1 coins since 1935. They were usually minted in small numbers and were mostly collector's items, not in wide circulation.

#nspoli #cbpoli #novascotia #capebreton #CB #NS @CanadianMint Image
The loonie was going to show a Voyager and indigenous person in a canoe as most $1 coins had since 1935 but the engraving device was lost on its way from Manitoba to Ottawa in 1986. The loonie image was designed to prevent anyone making fake coins with the missing device.
#nspoli Image
$1 coins were 80% silver in 1935 and were often called silver dollars. In 1987 the loonie was 91.5% nickel but today it's multi-ply brass plated steel. No more silver dollars!

We love getting questions about #mining, #minerals and #geology! We were recently asked about #MicaHill in Cape Breton. Here’s our answer:

#nspoli #cbpoli #novascotia #capebreton #NS #CB #victoriacounty ImageImage
#MicaHill is likely #NovaScotia’s best deposit of mica. Test pits were sunk there in summer 1882 by the Scotian Mining Company which confirmed the presence of a large supply of good quality #mica.
#nspoli #cbpoli #novascotia #capebreton #NS #CB ImageImage
There are few records about the extraction took place on #MicaHill. This is not unusual. Many historical #NovaScotia mines/quarries have extensive documentation – and @NS_Energy_Mines plays an important role preserving them.

We love getting questions about #mining, #minerals and #geology! We were recently asked about historical mining in #PortHood, #Inverness County. Here’s our answer:

#nspoli #cbpoli #NovaScotia #CapeBreton #NS #CB ImageImage
In the 1740s-1750s, a quarry on #PortHood Island was the main supply of finished/dressed sandstone for #FortressLouisbourg’s window and door casements. About 60 men worked there in summer and the stone was sent by barge through the #StraitofCanso to #Louisbourg.
#nspoli #cbpoli Image
Many historical #NovaScotia buildings, including the more important buildings at #Louisbourg, were made of stone that was considered somewhat unattractive (i.e. fieldstone or ironstone), so it was often fancied up with granite or sandstone trim.

We love getting questions about #mining, #minerals and #geology! We were asked about the red soil and sand at #CabotsLanding Provincial Park in #CapeBreton. Here’s our answer:

#nspoli #cbpoli #NovaScotia #CapeBretonHighlands #CB #NS ImageImage
Sand and soil are eroded rock. Red sand and soil, like at #CabotsLanding, eroded from rock with significant iron content. Iron oxidizes/rusts when exposed to air, so the red is rusted iron.

#nspoli #cbpoli #NovaScotia #Capebreton #CB #NS ImageImage
The sand, soil and clay at #CabotsLanding are glacial outwash - sediments deposited by glaciers as they melted at the end of the last ice age 10,000 years ago. Much of the sediment is eroded from the #CapeBreton Highlands, which used to be much bigger.

Also in 1825, the #Annapolis Iron Mining Co. built a blast furnace at #MooseRiver (#Clementsport) to smelt the magnetic ore recovered from three seams in #Clementsvale (the Miller, Potter and Milbury), as well as to accommodate production from the #Nictaux deposits.
