I know the point at which the caller broke down and cried.

I was there, and I heard it all.

It was during my second call, to conclude on a grim possibility of Methotrexate overdose in a very sick child.

Multiple co-morbidities.

1/
Its 7.45pm - I'm due to leave at 8pm. I hope.
It’s never happened of course.

I feel a little mentally drained, I sip my cold coffee and wince.

Must get that thermal mug I keep promising myself.

2/
Case open, I read scant notes, I will realise later why.
The case came through with some haste.

I start my call.

The caller: a father.

I start to hear that "whoosh" sound in my ears.

Fight and flight response. I grab my paper pad and pen, start scribbling down notes.

Lots more searches yesterday meant that in total we are able to plant 🌳1461🌳 trees for @NHSuk! Including donations to our partners @NHSForest and @TreesforCities, we will plant 2,020 trees in total πŸš€πŸ’™ #GrowYourLove THANK YOU EVERYONE πŸ‘
The trees will be planted this coming autumn around NHS hospitals sites in Wales, Cornwall, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle, Nottingham and London to provide important green spaces for key medical workers.
These trees will help to reduce dangerous levels of air pollution, provide green spaces for wellbeing and serve as a lasting thank you for the incredible work NHS key workers have done for us during this pandemic. #NHSThankYou πŸ™πŸΌπŸ₯🌳

Coronavirus: Concern over protective kit guidance change bbc.co.uk/news/uk-523355…

This got me thinking of a poem many of us know.

Here is my adaptation. How are we not protecting our only line of defence? We do not deserve these people because they deserve so much more πŸ’™
Dulce et Decorum Est Protegeretur

Working double shifts, dressed like old beggars wearing sacks,
Weak-kneed, coughing like hags, they do not curse or budge,
Till on the daily briefings they turned their backs,
And towards their much needed rest began to trudge.
Heroes are marching asleep. Many have no PPE,
But carry on, unprotected. Ministers to blame; all blind;
Drunk with ignorance; deaf even to the cries
Of those on the front line dropping like flies.

Cough! Cough! Quick!β€”An ecstasy of fumbling

1) Most important tip first: rubbing alcohol (isopropanol) removes glue or sticky tape residue from glass really easily! πŸ˜…πŸ‘

Vinegar, WD40 and nail varnish remover also work.
2) You will need several squares of paper (I used 12 squares of each colour to do two windows).

You can use coloured origami paper, e.g.: amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B9DR456/…

Or simply use squares of white printer paper and colour the hearts in with coloured pencils or pens afterwards πŸ‘ Image

At the end of a run of 5 busy, long, exhausting days and I'm so, so proud to be able to turn up each day to work alongside such an amazing, empathetic, wonderful team of people. To those who have welcomed us into their home in theatre, those who have stood up and joined 1/
our team when it's scary and overwhelming, those who have welcomed and supported them, those who have been caring for the sickest of patients and their families, and those who have sat with patients at the end, holding their hand, talking to them and making sure noone is alone 2/
Nurses, healthcares, physios, consultants, domestics, pharmacists, doctors, paramedics, porters, managers all piling in...

We have moved half an intensive care unit, set up a whole new one, developed and adapted hour by hour all the while looking after more patients than 3/

To my colleagues and friends in the NHS and health services across the globe, clinical, drivers, Biomedical engineers, porters, cleaners and admin staff
These coming weeks and months will be the biggest battle of your professional lives and it all comes down to what you do right now.

Either, we stop this virus together as a team, or we crumble. Each and every one of us has our part to play.

!
We’re in hell right now, believe me I have been here before. Now, we can all stay as we are, battered, bruised and scared. Or, we can fight our way back, out into the light. We can climb out of this hell.

There are so many incredible people working in our @OUHospitals right now, pulling together in the most extraordinary way. Some not immediately thought if, so tonight I’d like to give them a little mention ...
Let’s start with the cleaners. It’s not a glamorous job, but always vital. More so today than ever. A huge thank you to all the cleaners working in our hospitals πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
Procurement. Bet you weren’t thinking of this team. They are working incredibly hard to source the extra kit that is needed right now πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
