Massive #NLD today.

Wanted to see if Harry Kane performs any differently against Arsenal in the Premier League than against other teams...

Essentially, no 😂 Using a simulation of a normal distribution, his G-xG is pretty similar.

T-test also insignificant @ .05

#coys #TOTARS Image
This basically simulates 100,000 matches of each, using his mean G-xG/90 & standard deviation.

Only looks at PL games where he played at least 45 minutes.

Performed a Monte Carlo simulation in R & also a quick unequal variance t-test in Excel which was non-significant at 95%
Note that the eye test seems to show he performs worse, on average, in the NLD. Yes, his mean is lower (ex: the simulated mean = -.076, but not vs Arsenal = .105).

But given the sample sizes (9 NLDs, over 140 non-NLD, only data since start of 17/18), t-test was not significant

THREAD: A year ago today Nov 8, #Myanmar held its elections where #AungSanSuuKyi #NLD won in an even bigger landslide than 2015 with over 80% of total contested seats. But this win has led to a #militarycoup takeover on Feb 1 (1/5)
#WhatsHappeninglnMyanmar
irrawaddy.com/elections/offi…
#Myanmar citizens' resounding support for #AungSanSuuKyi #NLD caught all especially military by surprise. The results caused greater discomfort for #military who used that as a key basis to stage a #coup alleging electoral fraud which independent election observers refute (2/5)
9 months into #Myanmar #militarycoup, World Bank estimates an almost 20% #economic contraction this year, drive-by shootings becoming common, collapsed education & healthcare sectors. Over 220,000 displaced. @aapp records over 1,200 people have died (3/5) #WhatsHappeninglnMyanmar

Thread on Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar diaspora politics and how the pro-democracy movement can move forward from NLD-led politics. (1/?)

Over the past couple of months, I have spoken to many younger and older activists on what is the best path towards a post-Tatmadaw Myanmar.
Unsurprisingly, Aung San Suu Kyi's name appeared often over the course of these conversations: where she is, her health, the new bogus charges brought against her, #freeourleaders and her preeminent place in Myanmar politics. (2/?)
My formerly pristine opinion of her is bitterly tinged by her inexcusable defense of the Tatmadaw over the 2017 genocidal campaign against our Rohingya brothers and sisters. She used to be a former hero of mine, I now view her as someone to replace.

THREAD

While I strongly support #R2PforMyanmar ASAP, I believe there's much vital work that the #CivilDisobedienceMovement could be doing now that it isn't doing, namely, waging a fierce & effective propaganda campaign to accelerate defections from #MyanmarPolice & #Tatmadaw 1/n
The ideas I'll be presenting don't originate w/ me, an American w/o #Burma-related expertise, but are derived from the work & imagination of Burmese like @Rangoon_Film & @JusticeMyanmar along w/ a seminal interview done by @mrattkthu w/ a #Tatmadaw defector, Nyi Thura. 2/n
This interview hasn't gotten nearly the attn it deserves. With the help of @PhyoBurmaMade, who kindly translated the entire interview for a rando American (😄thank you!🙏), I'll begin by identifying what strike me as valuable points from that @mrattkthu interview 3/n

THREAD 22 of writing against the 🪖-coup. It might be on emotional shock and feeling numb. It might be on the suffering of others. It might be on a new advocacy group - or on all of the above. #March4Coup #CivilDisobedienceMovementMyanmar #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar Artist: Kuekool
1. This post by #Rohingya #activist @Ali_Jinnah_222 captures two things I want to write about today: being at a loss of words in regard to one’s own feelings - and being in #solidarity with the suffering of others. #March4Coup #CivilDisobedienceMovement

THREAD 21 of writing against the 🪖-coup is a thread in which I will look at what the so-called “international community” can/might/won’t do for the #CivilDisobedienceMovementMyanmar #WhatsHappeninglnMyanmar #March3Coup #RejectTheMilitary #UN #EU @UNHumanRights @coe @RapporteurUn Image
1. The calls for “action” are getting louder. And rightly so! From the moment 19-year old Mya Thwet Thwet Khine was shot, the police/military has continued committing the most serious crimes. To shoot, beat, and arrest peaceful protestors is against national and international law
2. Since #Feb28Coup the day of #MilkTeaAlliance protests we have seen an escalation in violence by the military which no longer targets protestors but bystanders. It is also clear that people are getting executed: shot in the head.Result is instant incapacitation and likely death

1. Myanmar’s new ruling military council has handed out at least three positions to leaders of parties allied to the #Tatmadaw proxy party, the #USDP.

The latest is Thet Thet Khaing, the leader of the controversial People’s Pioneer Party (PPP). myanmar-now.org/en/news/people…
2. The PPP was founded in 2019 by businesswoman Thet Thet Khaing, who left the #NLD after being suspended for criticizing its leader #AungSanSuuKyi

The party also includes former military officers and #ultranationalists. bit.ly/3ro7EFG
3. Thet Thet Khaing, who won a seat in 2015 as an #NLD candidate, was soundly defeated in her bid for election last year. bit.ly/2MxSE9a

She was appointed Minister for Social Welfare and Relief and Resettlement, replacing the popular Dr. Win Mya Aye.

What's Happened In #Rakhine since the #MyanmarCoup?
[Thread 1/7]

From our sources @RestlessBeings we understand that a major PR drive by the military has taken place in #Rakhine state today, particularly targeted at the #Rohingya population

What's Happened In #Rakhine since the #MyanmarCoup?
[Thread 2/7]

In #Sittwe #Akyab in the #IDP camp of #AungMinglar the Regional Military Commander (believed to be Mying Aung Lwin) visited #Rohingya community leaders for about 45 minutes.

#WhatsHappeningInMyanmar
[Thread 3/7]
He went on to explain the 3 main reasons why the #Tatmadaw has taken control:
1. 1 million voters in #Rakhine left off voter lists
2. #NLD violated #Covid19 rules
3. #NLD didn't respond to #military demands of voter lists

For all who are interested in the politics of #Burma and for all those who have been left questioning the logic and timing behind this supposed '#coup' - I think we need to first understand that there was no #democracy to begin with
The 2008 Constitution was written by the #Tatmadaw for the #Tatmadaw
1. 25% seats go to military
2. Military retains power in key depts and retains veto
3. Commander in Chief can call State of Emergency at a whim
The idea of the #Burma constitution 2008 was that with the combination of the 25% reserved seats and with the #military proxy party USDP only needing to secure 25% more of the popular vote, the military would always retain 'democratic' control

for everyone who is confused af about the #burma #myanmar #coup - for those who are asking, should we be calling out for #SuuKyi release? but wasnt she the one who defended and oversaw #genocide against #rohingya ? but how come everyone is up in arms about her detention now...
is it the #military or is it #suukyi who is the bad guy here...
I understand and get why you are confused. Let me just say this to clear it up for you - they were in bed together the whole time through.
There has never really been any #democracy in #Myanmar #Burma...
#SuuKyi was just a puppet for the #military. This #coup isnt even really a coup, because according to the #constitution of #Burma the military is legally entitled to do this. So what can the world do I hear you say?...

#Myanmar 🇲🇲 BREAKING: #AungSanSuuKyi has been arrested alongside the country's President according to her party the #NLD.

It seems that the military is commiting a coup.
Unlike before it will be very hard for #AungSanSuuKyi and the #NLD to profile themselves as champions of democracy in #Myanmar 🇲🇲.

In the short period that they were in a shared position of power they allowed the #Rohingya genocide to take place and defended the perpetrators.
That being said the actions of the #Tatmadaw are clearly a coup and the international community should retaliate.

The people of #Myanmar 🇲🇲 deserve better than to go back to the dark days of military totalitarianism.

Unfortunately such #jade mine landslides in #Kachin #Myanmar happen so regularly, killing dozens annually that it's disturbing how nothing seem to be done to prevent "pickers" from risking their lives. The last landslide happened just last week. mizzima.com/article/two-ki…

The lineup leaves me slightly worried for #NLD. Surprising to see Ozil out once again, Ramsey may have been necessary to bring in some creativity. But, definitely going to be a crazy match #COYG
YESSSS!!! Worry slightly eased within minutes. Now hoping we keep on to this early momentum and lock them down
Love the team’s intensity on the pitch, Emery’s passion on the sidelines, support from the crowd and most of all the seeming inability of Spurs being unable to keep up #NLD
