#NN19 @SenGillibrand on universal healthcare: Once again, her DESCRIPTION of her approach sounds a lot like #MedicareForAmerica, but she closes by saying she *guarantees* “single payer #MedicareForAll”.

AGAIN: MFAll the BRAND is different from MFAll the POLICY.
(I’m not criticizing her plan, mind you...I’m criticizing her failure to clarify the distinctions)
Also: Shout-out to @_silversmith for pushing the “brand vs policy” point.

When you arrive at your 9am panel to discover it's led by @lizzwinstead! #NN19 @Netroots_Nation

When you ask people if they would support a loved one who wants to get an abortion, the answer is overwhelmingly yes - the "should abortion be legal" construct subtracts people from the equation. - @jgonzalez_rojas #nn19

⚠️ AN APOLOGY.
Earlier today, I participated in the #NN19 #FixTheDamnHealthcare panel with @lpackard, @ElenaHung202, @mattbc, @DrSriram and @glparodi. For the most part, I thought it went well...between us we managed to cram a ton of complicated policy stuff into an hour. 1/
All of the feedback I received from those who were there in person, as well as those who watched the livestream & who commented via Twitter and Facebook, was very positive. 2/
When @mattbc was introducing his segment on #MedicareForAmerica, he mentioned the hashtag #DoctorsAreDickheads, which I had never heard before. @DrSriram jokingly quipped "why is everyone looking at me?", and I kiddingly said "not all doctors?" to him. This was out of line. 3/

I'm at a @Lights4Liberty protest against ICE that's starting by @PAConvention Center, where the @Netroots_Nation #NN19 progressive convention is happening. The protestors will march to Philly's ICE field office on 8th and Cherry. Follow thread for updates @PhillyInquirer 1/
This protest comes just days, according to @NYTimes, before planned ICE raids targeting undocumented immigrants with final deportation orders. In Pennsylvania, arrested migrants could be sent to the Berks Detention Center; story by @JeffGammage here

Jessica Gardener of Old City tells me she's here to protest how immigrants are treated on the border, and as a Jew she sees "way too many reminders of what happened in Nazi Germany". She's not for "open borders" but "many people put into camps are seeking legal asylum" 3/

What does inaccessibility look like?

@Sblahov highlights the news that broke recently - that all the 2020 candidates’ websites are inaccessible

@RebeccaCokley recounts a recent experience at a progressive event with no disability accommodations

@RunReymaRun: “y’all know about white fragility? There’s no room for able fragility.” #NN19
.@RebeccaCokley asks how we as progressives can do better?

@Sblahov: Step 1 is to “decenter yourself, put your fragility aside. Accessibility and inclusion isn’t about *your* feelings.”

.@RebeccaCokley asks what are the most pernicious forms of hidden ableism?

@RunReymaRun: “Treating the disability community as a monolith... with the only frame of reference as white men in wheelchairs... we must break through framing disability as white.” #NN19
@SFdirewolf calls out the #strawban as exhibit A of hidden ableism.

“It’s easy to see in hindsight, wow this is really crappy policy... but it really struck a nerve because drinking and eating is such a basic survival function.”
@Sblahov: “Stop the armchair diagnoses of Donald Trump. Evil is not a mental health issue. And the people we’re hurting by not coming up with non-ableist insults are people w/ mental illness & mental health disabilities—many of whom would be great leaders.” #NN19

1/ Will you join me for a thread of reflection as I head to Philadelphia on Amtrak to speak about a progressive vision for the future at #NetrootsNation? #NN19

The governing agenda of our nation ought to be:

#EndPoverty

Here’s why #EndPoverty is also an organizing vision...
2/ #EndPoverty means:

Poverty as it's experienced by the nearly 8 out of 10 Americans who live paycheck to paycheck, who are one "shit happens" life experience away from ruin
3/ Poverty happens because wages are too low & life's basic needs like health care are too expensive. Therefore, #EndPoverty, means a living wage of $20 per hour as a federal minimum wage, a big expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit and... #MedicareForAll #EndPoverty

#nn18 to everyone tweeting on the #BlackAssCaucus hashtag, and otherwise expressing ways that we can be more reflective and inclusive, I can assure you that this board member (as well as my colleagues) is listening.
Philadelphia is my home, and I will be working to ensure that #nn19 works with all our local communities to make this our best conference yet - not just reflecting Phila and the SEPA suburbs but our allies in Camden and beyond. #nn18
I have big ambitions for what local #nn19 host committee can do, between outreach/inclusion for local activists, agenda-setting, local venues and vendors worth supporting, and more. We'll need everyone's help. When we're ready to start, pls join and spread the word.
