1/ Just saw @mikamckinnon's thread about the #tsunami warning from #NTWC as a result of the Alaska quake In case you're still not sure if you should take these warnings seriously, let me tell you about my hometown, Crescent City, CA.(THREAD)
2/ Something about the topography of the sea floor around Crescent City has the effect of focusing tsunamis, and it has been the victim of three destructive tsunamis in the last 60 years.
3/ In 2006 the harbor was damaged after a surge resulting from a magnitude 8.3 earthquake in the western Pacific. Thankfully, no one was killed.
