I appreciate the sentiment this reflects. I (of all people) also appreciate that we draw conclusions about Arabs and Muslims as well. So, I want to start there. But there is a reason in this very unique case why (some of us) use words like suicide bomber but not terrorist. 1/
I'm not here to defend analysis, I'm thick skinned, simply to explain thinking. As we all know, terrorism is a motivational crime, violence for political or ideological impact. A lot of things can elicit terror, seem "terrorist" like, but not be that 2/
Why does it matter? The long game. I too am worried about white radical terrorism in US. Trump condones it as well by using tactic known as #stochasticterrorism to incite without directing. More on my thoughts @markfollman @motherjones 3/

What we know about #nashvilleexplosion

· Reports of shots or a firefight bringing police response and set EOD en route.

· 3 separate periods of gunfire reported.

· Warning messages for twenty minutes prior limited individual lives at risk.
· Epicenter of blast was next door to a well developed hub whic is Cold War age.
· Fiber infrastructure attack would be better staged at other than downtown locations.
· Redundancies in data storage make this good only if it was a single location.
· If fire suppression was water, this would be more effective because the water would ruin the servers

· Servers were immediately impacting 911 in Tennessee but a few hours later it was more widespread to Kentucky and elsewhere

· Multiple COLT units deployed in aftermath.

A thread of the known timeline of the #nashvilleexplosion. At 1:22am on Christmas this RV was first recorded by surveillance cameras on Second Avenue in downtown Nashville. It then parked on the west side of the street right next to the AT&T Data Center. @NC5 1/15
At around 5:30am downtown residents heard gunfire on Second Avenue and calls were made to police. A short time later came another round of gunfire. When police responded they found the RV playing a recorded warning that there was a bomb inside. 2/15
At least six brave @MNPDNashville officers went door to door in the immediate area getting the people who were home on Christmas morning to evacuate. @JohnCooper4Nash called the officers “heroes” and says, “there would have been life lost if it wasn’t for their courage.” 3/15

We're about to find out that the #NashvilleExplosion has MANY "key" elements that make it HIGHLY significant while "small" in nature.

🚨 🚨 🚨 🚨

A communications hub was attacked -- cell phone service is effected all the way into Kentucky - the AIRPORT IS NOW CLOSED.

1/
This occurred with in 3 BLOCKS of the State Capitol.

You pull off an event/attack like this in half a dozen more major cities, and you've managed to drop 90% of communications throughout the country - and affected air travel as well.

Internet comms. are also in danger.

#NashvilleExplosion From Scott Sweetow Retired Acting Director Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center (TEDAC) + 3 decades ATF
Sweetow @S3G_Consulting is an expert on IEDs: If explosion originated in RV, would take extremely high heat + likely
hundreds of pounds of high
explosive to eviscerate vehicle of that size. Notes: axles, frames, engine, very durable to blasts. Also if explosion sufficient to eviscerate RV, would expect extremely LARGE crater similar Oklahoma City bombing + complete building collapse (especially older brick in Nashville)
For FBI to take lead this quickly, from his 30 years law enforcement experience, Sweetow says likely reflects information the FBI has about presumed target or information about perpetrators. @CBSNews

Thread on the #NashvilleExplosion #bombing
1/ According to eye witness Betsy W on @997wtn, her and her son (who lives in a different apt) were in the 3rd floor above where the RV was parked.
2/ Around 4:30 or so, they heard several bursts of automatic gunfire. She called the police... twice. Then sometime after 5am, they started hearing a female computerized voice broadcasting from the white RV: "This is a bomb, you must evacuate". This was repeated.
3/ Her son came to her apartment and said he was concerned about the RV across the street, and wanted to get outta there. Around 5:30am, the broadcast changed to:
"This bomb will detonate in 15 minutes"
"This bomb will detonate in 14 minutes"

Following WKRN :
this probably was a VBIED on a RV.
My initial estimate is several hundred kilos of explosives.
Probably not Accidental Gas/fuel expl.
Investigators have collected potential residue/evidence of the explosive device from a large area.
Mainly property damage.
several blocks with damage
