Like #NathanielWoods, my friend #KennethFoster was sentenced to be killed even tho he wasn't convicted of killing. He was already in the TX Death House when Rick Perry commuted his sentence. Kenneth will serve decades for a robbery at 18, but he is still alive. #RIPNateWoods
My friend #KennethFoster was sentenced to die even tho TX admitted he didn't kill anyone. His sentence was commuted to life. Court-appointed counsel failed to present compelling evidence of innocence for #TroyDavis (GA) & #NathanielWoods (AL). They were both killed.
TX guards moved #KennethFoster to the Death House earlier than planned. Because he wasn't convicted of killing, he protested his own killing by not walking to his unjust execution. I love Kenneth. His dignity inspires me. #DeathPenalty

.@GovernorKayIvey's 1st Dog is featured on AL's website: Missy is "a testament to how new opportunities are possible for people who care."

Ivey decided she didn't care enough about #NathanielWoods to stop AL from killing him tonight, even tho AL admits Nate never killed anyone.
Nate was present when police arrived at a house & Kerry Spencer started shooting. Nate wasn't hit; 3 officers died. Spencer confessed, saying it was a split-second decision. He's on #DeathRow. Nate was later convicted as an accomplice, tho the killer says he's "100% innocent."
My students are on #DeathRow or serving sentences of no parole following convictions as teens, some at 13. I don't know Kerry Spencer, but his letter is very much like those I receive regularly--smart, competent, compassionate.

Just got off phone with Kimberly Chisholm Simmons, sister of Harley Chisholm III, one of 3 Birmingham police officers killed in 2004. She does not support the execution of #NateWoods. "He did not kill my brother. This is so unjust. I don't understand," she told me in tears. 1/5
She tried to contact @GovernorKayIvey, but was told the Gov was in a meeting. She spoke with a staff member, expressing her deep misgivings about Nate's death warrant. She asked them to please grant mercy. She was told someone would call her back. No one ever did. 2/5
"They just want him dead. I did at one time too. But when God gets hold of your heart and demands forgiveness and mercy, I have to follow that," she said. "I hated them but I knew in my heart that was wrong. It saddens me that an innocent man will be executed." 3/5
