Happy Friday peeps. I'm tired. Exhausted, as I know so many are. In addition to midterm stress, I have #notallwhitewomen fatigue. It's a chronic condition. The last thing I planned to do today was another thread but...let's talk about niceness & some other things. 1/
Specifically, weaponized niceness and silencing tactics. I've said before that white women want to be liked. Black women want to be respected. Yes I'm prepared for the inevitable replies 😬. The discussion of "niceness" goes hand in hand with this. Consistently, 2/
replies to posts by BW and those who stand with us when we speak out are met with accusations of being "mean" when we are candid; being "angry" when we are firm; being hostile for speaking to other adults as adults. Inevitably the white fragility comes out. Demands 3/

Amy Coney Barrett will be confirmed to the US Supreme Court on Monday, unless something outrageous happens to stop it.

With her confirmation, the US is on the threshold of a theocracy that conservatives have worked for since the 1970s feministgiant.substack.com/p/if-amy-coney… #AmyConeyBarrett
I moved to the U.S. in 2000. I’ve learned that many white Americans have a delusional amount of confidence in govt & its institutions. They’re childishly naive in believing that institutions will save them from state power, which they think will work for rather than hurt them.
That stubborn belief in U.S. exceptionalism undergirds the refusal to see the fascism that Trump brought. Black, Indigenuous, and people of colour have no such delusions. They do not expect institutions to protect them because they are so often hurt by those institutions.

#AmyConeyBarrett is here to stick her middle finger up your smug, white feminism. She probably would never stick her middle finger up anything but I want you to imagine her doing that every time you see headlines like this.

#AmyConeyBarrett is not “feminist icon.”:

She is the Five-Star General of the Footsoldiers of the Patriarchy

feministgiant.substack.com/p/if-amy-coney…
So successful has white supremacist patriarchy been at convincing white women that they’re lucky to live in the U.S. and not Saudi Arabia or Iran, that so many white women did not pay enough attention to the theocracy that white supremacy was building right here at home.

An essay by me soon on FEMINIST GIANT Newsletter:

Dear affluent cis white women: You’re angry NOW? Just now? Trump made you angry? RBG’s death made you scared? Where the fuck have you been?

It will be called #NotAllWhiteWomen
White women think their anger is a revolution when in fact they’re just catching up w/revolution of rage the rest of us began ages ago.

In 2018, a white woman asked a panel I spoke on in NYC “How can I help ensure my daughter doesn’t lose Roe vs Woe” & I was going to explode.
I reminded her many many women of colour and poor women across the US had already lost reproductive rights. Where have you been?!

Last night, Abby Johnson spoke at the #RNCConvention. She has recently advocated for "bringing back" head-of-household voting, i.e. men.

Today is the centennial of the 19th Amendment taking effect, giving white women suffrage. Timing! 19thnews.org/2020/08/on-eve… h/t @rerutled
So as you tweet #WomensEqualityDay - which marks the 19th Amendment taking effect - ask why the #RNCConvention platformed a woman who advocates for the reversal of that suffrage.

The GOP happily suppresses the vote of Black and people of colour.

And now also white women.
Abby Johnson - who is of course virulently anti abortion - is Exhibit A for white women who are Bootlickers of the Patriarchy.

I usually call them Footsoldiers of the Patriarchy. That is not enough.

Here's a statement: "White women uphold white supremacy." (1/x)
It's not a crazy statement. And before your kneejerk #notallwhitewomen gets triggered, all one has to do is look at the voting record of the 2016 election, or at the voter record for any of the most problematic recent Republican candidates. (2/x)
This, despite #metoo, the Women's March, attacks on reproductive rights, misogyny, wage disparity, and rape culture.

Here's another statement, also not crazy: White Jews uphold white supremacy.

Likewise, do not chime in with #notallwhiteJews or "But antisemitism!" (3/x)

People keep trying to explain why a majority of White women vote for Republicans. Are they forced into it by overbearing husbands? Are they voting to protect their husbands and sons? Maybe, but I think the simpler explanation is White women are just as racist as White men 1/
One of the enduring tropes that trap us is the idea of "White innocence" and it's most definitely at work with White women and racism. White women are not racist because the hubby said so, they are racist in their own right 2/
And here's the obligatory #NotAllWhiteWomen which should be obvious to anyone who speaks the language well. But yes, White women are implicated in racism as much as White men and, in fact led the partisan realignment to defend segregation 3/

White women: footsoldiers of the patriarchy.
Brian Kemp: 76%
Ted Cruz: 59%
Ron DeSantis: 51%
Stacey Abrams has not conceded in the race against Brian Kemp but consider this #FootsoldiersOfThePatriarchy
In only one of those graphs, it’s a man vs a woman.

In that race, it is a (white) man (Brian Kemp) competing versus a (Black) woman (Stacey Abrams).

In that race, white women overwhelmingly chose the man over the woman candidate. (76%)

I’ve been asked countless times by mostly white people “Why do Muslim women submit to so much misogyny?” I’m now asking same question about these white women. Replace “Republican” with “Muslim” here & imagine the outrage google.com/amp/s/theconve… #FootsoldiersOfThePatriarchy
“Our research led us to conclude that Republican women will mainly stand firm in their party affiliation.” #FootsoldiersOfThePatriarchy
“we have found that Republicanism encompasses different visions of womanhood that allow women to feel that they can be Republican and also strong women.”

I will write a thread about this soon but for now I’m too enraged to say more: every white American woman watching the war vs Christine Blasey Ford must understand that all the white & blonde privilege you have - and I don’t care how you vote - will not save you from patriarchy.
You cannot be a more “perfect victim” than Christine Blasey Ford and still they will do all they can to destroy her. Imagine if she was Black. Or poor. Or disabled. Or so many other things.
And don’t send me #NotAllWhiteWomen. Where the fuck have you all been?Trump made you angry?Where the fuck were you before? You’re angry now?White women think their anger is a revolution when in fact they’re just catching up with the revolution of rage the rest of us began ages ago
