After getting hit by a hurricane twice, having her roof destroyed, no running water and relies on neighbors to bringher water, an elderly woman in Puerto Rico got her food stamps cut from $197 a month to $101 a month. Because trump thinks Puerto Rico gets too much money.
TODAY:
580,000 rely on food stamps and live belownthe poverty line, TWO YEARS after the hurricanes.
Puerto Rico needs $132 billion to rebuild.
( yes that is how much damage was inflicted on this island). Congress allowed $11B. Fema $4 B.
Dems in the house pulled a $14 billion aid package, the senate sat on it, trump refused to approve it.
But
He is shifting funds from every agency for a wall.

The #Notredamefire shocked the world and is a devastating loss for France. Sadly no tragedy can go unscathed from #disinfo anymore. Let's take a look at some of the bigger ones. France24.com has already compiled a pretty good list here: observers.france24.com/en/20190416-de…
While not outright #disinfo, #followthewhiteRabbit Richard Spencer, a leader in the White Nationalist movement was quick to capitalize on the #Notredamefire with this tweet.
And of course #Qanon conspiracies were all over the map. Everything from muslims to immigration to a #falseflag conspiracy to distract us from the impending arrests of Hillary Clinton, a host of "impending" imaginary #pedogate arrests and of course #fisagate

(1/3) One possible bittersweet outcome of the #NotreDameFire is this: The cathedral has been falling into disrepair to such an extent that it was starting to become dangerous. Literally falling apart, with the stonework being eroded, shifting buttresses, etc.
(2/3) The 19th-century renovations didn't help. in a way helping to hasten some damage. Not to mention the lead in the roofs. Nothing but wrangling over renovation costs & token attention, bandaid repairs. Bureaucratic neglect. Sooner or later, Notre Dame would burn or collapse.
(3/3) The fire didn't destroy Notre Dame. It's a new chapter in its history. My hope is the urgency & attention this fire prompted will raise funds & rouse people to not just build a new roof/spire & make repairs but to restore, strengthen, & preserve Notre Dame for the future.

(1 of 10) The important thing to remember about the #NotreDameFire is that Notre Dame Cathedral, like other old buildings, is a "living, breathing" structure. It's not just some old unchanging relic, it has been affected and changed by every century it's existed in.
(2 of 10) Notre Dame was designed by some of the best the 12th century had to offer. Over the 200 years it took to build, generations put their work into it, with the best engineering of the time employed. Over the next few hundred years, various elements were replaced or added.
(3 of 10) Statues had been damaged by Huguenots in the 16th century. The choir was rebuilt with marble. Entire original stained glass windows were removed and replaced to let in more light. One statue dating from the 15th century was totally destroyed in the 18th century.

On the #NotreDameFire - opinion thread.

I grew up Catholic, and for many, many reasons I chose to leave the church over 20 years ago. That's a different conversation. But let me explain why I still find this to be a terrible loss to humanity as a whole.
It's easy to say it's "just a building". So was the Library of Alexandria. "Oh, but that was a loss of knowledge!" Yes, and so was this. It's not the stones of the building that make it important. Notre Dame was so much more than just a structure.
Say, too, you take umbrage with the Holy Church on its own and therefore see the fire as "cleansing". You are basically dismissing an entire belief. Would you thusly celebrate a mosque or a temple of equal historic importance to a people?
