The city of Munich has imposed an alcohol ban for the Theresienwiese on Saturday as the originally planned first Oktoberfest day.
The city announced on Thursday that alcohol should not be consumed on the entire area from 9 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday morning. "The aim of this ban is to prevent private substitute parties for the originally planned Oktoberfest start with a high risk of infection on the site."
The alcohol ban also applies to three demonstrations registered on the Theresienwiese, it said. These include two rallies on the subject of tradition and customs as well as a demonstration by the Climate Autumn network under the title "Oktoberfest entry of possibilities".
