Hey music fans! Our Top 250 #80sCountdown will begin shortly, on this thread. So grab yourself a cold Bartles and Jaymes and enjoy....
Here we go! The first 3 posts are songs that received TWO votes. These first hundred will take us from 255 to 156. I didn’t see any Kajagoogoo or JoBoxers, but there is some Nena and Falco. Enjoy.

It may be time to ask for last call on our #80sCountdown. FYI, we currently have an even greater runaway than we did in the #OldiesCountdown. And that was a romp. If you have favorites you want in the mix, now’s the time to have your voice heard. 🎸🎸🎸
Sorry. In my haste, I forgot to say you may submit up to 30 songs. How silly of me. 30.
The votes are almost entirely tallied. So we’re done unless someone wishes to send me their list while I’m sleeping and I can add your votes in the morning. Thanks to all who participated. This will be a good countdown.

Weirdest debate on my TL: whether a song from 1980 can be called an oldie. Folks, that’s 40 years ago. If you heard an oldies countdown in 1970 and they followed Earth Angel w a song from 1930 about the Crash, you’d freak because that’s so incredibly long ago. #OldiesCountdown
I started listening to oldies countdowns in ‘73/74. Played super old stuff like At the Hop. In the Still of the Nite. Songs that were only about 14 years old. The equivalent today would be playing Single Ladies or Poker Face. Oldies isn’t just 50s/60s.
I get it. It makes people feel old. But 1 of my aims in hosting a countdown was to learn which songs from all previous eras have entered the canon of “classic oldies.” I didn’t need to be taught that about Layla and Stairway.

The votes have been tallied. The weekend seems close enough. Welcome to my 1st annual Top 500 #OldiesCountdown. I guess I'll do it all on this thread. And slowly. So feel free to check back here throughout the weekend. And enjoy.
We'll knock of some big chunks before we get to the higher regions. To start, here are numbers 500 to 461.
To keep that momentum going, I present to you numbers 461 to 430:

Will Strawberry Fields beat Strawberry Alarm Clock? Is there more love for Modern Love or Modern English? Billy Paul or Billy Preston. Or Billie Eilish? Last chance to impact the standing for our #OldiesCountdown. Send your top 22. But do it soon! 🇺🇸🎸🍺🍰🐵
So far, I can reveal that Pink Floyd has more votes than P!nk. That 3 mentions seems to be the magic number for making the top 500. And that one song is running away from all the others. But it's not Shaddup You Face or Pac Man Fever.
I can also say that the votes have been so 60's centric that Three Dog Night and Pure Prairie League are two of the youngest acts on the countdown.

Not trying to be a nudge (I swear). But if anyone wants to vote in our #OldiesCountdown, now would be a good time. Sort of a last call if you will. Send me your top 22 as if I were an oldies radio station. Then I’ll tally the votes. Thanks a bunch. 🙏
FYI We currently have a leading song that appears to be a runaway train. FYI #2 It’s not Runaway Train.
One hour till pencils down. And we still have a 4 way tie for second. Keep those lists coming.

Howdy, music fans. Let’s shoot for tonight at midnight to get in your submissions for my #OldiesCountdown. Shoot me your fave 22 older songs. So far it’s heavily 60/70s dominated. And 1 song running away w it. Let your voice be heard. But quickly. ❤️
Come on folks. We have a 4 way tie for second. Don’t make me flip coins. Vote.
Any stragglers? Or should I tally the votes? I’m still here. Notebook in hand.

Update for anyone participating in my #OldiesCountdown voting. They no longer need to be ranked. But you may list up to 15 oldies, as defined by you the listener. Hopefully there’ll be enough participation to have separation. And thus a holiday weekend countdown. Thanks 🙏🎸🍺
I forgot Brown Eyed Girl, We Got the Beat, My Sharona, Let’s Dance and Kodachrome. You may expand to 20 without fear of penalty.
Dammit. And Cracklin’ Rosie. I knew I should have written my list down!! Yikes.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to have my own #OldiesCountdown like KRTH or WCBS. Send your top 15 oldies hits, ranked. I’ll include mine below. Oldies can be anything before now, but preferably not obscure album cuts. If enough folks play, I hope to have a real countdown
#OldiesCountdown 15
I Want to Hold Your Hand
Born to Run
Your Song
Little Red Corvette
I’m a Believer
God Only Knows
I Second that Emotion
Like a Rolling Stone
Ruby Tuesday
Build Me Up Buttercup
Philadelphia Freedom
Dancing in the Dark
Just Like Heaven
Wonderwall
Mr Brightside
Okay. Ranked may be tough if people are just naming one or two songs. A list is better than a smattering. But I can also work with a smattering.
