Let me try again with corrections from followers: #Omicon BA.2 in the U.K. Household surveillance with almost 1 in 13 people infected in recent weeks. Daily deaths were 350 and 100s flights canceled. Please living with the virus is not letting the virus spread without control.

A month later… I’m still shaking my head how people seem suddenly surprised that stores are closed, school teachers sick, cities languishing, hospitals cancelling surgeries—all misled that #Omicon wave was going to be somehow “mild”, while ignoring exponential cases. #COVID19
2) half a month ago… it was clear what #Omicron would do to disrupt every facet of our lives. So many govts ignored it or downplayed it under the “it’s mild” hand waving gesture to sweep it under the rug. Shameful.
3) I’m sometimes sick to my stomach hearing all the people who carelessly and callously send their kids to school while knowing they are sick. This callousness and endangerment of others is what keeps this pandemic going longer. Humanity is so damn selfish sometime.

FLORIDA—Surpassing all-time #COVID19 high with hospitalizations surging like clockwork behind the case rise. Some claimed Florida was as “herd” and #Omicon protected because of recent July-September #DeltaVariant wave. This looks unlikely.

Figure by @DrWilliamKu
2) if even England is already exceeding hospitalization forecasts, will Florida do any better? Doubtful. 👇
3) Will Floridians follow the CDC to the T? Or even take enough precautions in face of already muddy CDC guidelines like this??

1/You have no doubt heard much lately about the recently designated #COVID19 #variant, #omicron.

I would like to distill what we know, what we do not know, and what this all means for you right now.
2/On 11/26/21, the @WHO officially designated B.1.1.529 (#omicron) a "variant of concern."

It cited a "large number of mutations, some of which are concerning" and "preliminary evidence" of "an increased risk of reinfection with this variant.."

3/In short, scientists are concerned because #omicron exhibits an unusual number of mutations across the #SARSCoV2 genome, with >30 on the spike protein.

The spike is the part of the virus that allows it to gain access to human cells and reproduce. (h/t @_nference)
