THREAD: What should we expect from Mueller's testimony?
1/ Tomorrow's testimony from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller has been much anticipated, but will we really find out anything new?

In this thread, I'll briefly explain what I'll be listening for when I watch his testimony tomorrow. (I'll do my best to live tweet during it.)
2/ The vast majority of Americans have never read the Mueller report, so you can expect Democrats to ask Mueller questions that are meant to get him to repeat the portions of his part that are most damaging to Trump.

U.S. Senator @SenWhitehouse and I answered these questions and more on the new episode of my #OnTopic podcast!
Don't miss this. In the first part of the podcast, @PattiVasquezCHI asked me your questions about the SDNY campaign finance investigation, the decisions not to prosecute, and potential future liability.

Then we discussed the independence of DOJ and the judiciary with Senator.

Would opening an impeachment inquiry help House Democrats obtain evidence from the Trump Administration? What would an inquiry look like? Harvard Law Professor @tribelaw answered these questions and more on the new episode of my #OnTopic podcast, out today!
This is an important episode. Professor Tribe's argument that an impeachment inquiry could help the House has influenced certain Members of Congress. I got into the weeds with him to discuss how opening an inquiry would matter.

As I predicted, DOJ added many additional charges against Julian Assange. Their initial charge was risky and had evidentiary issues, given that Assange's alleged co-conspirator is unwilling to cooperate with DOJ.

I expect DOJ to use this new leverage to push him to plead guilty.
I discussed this issue with @BarbMcQuade on my #OnTopic podcast after the initial indictment against Assange. (She bet me a cup of coffee that the DOJ wouldn't add more charges ... it was the one issue on which we strongly disagreed.)
I won't speak for Barb, but I believe she thought the DOJ would show restraint because they were careful to initially charge a crime that did not implicate press freedom.

The new charges very well could, but I want to see them before saying more than that.

THREAD: What should we make of Don McGahn’s refusal to produce documents in response to a subpoena from the House Judiciary Committee?
1/ Today former White House Counsel Don McGahn (through his attorney) refused to produce documents pursuant to a subpoena from the House Judiciary Committee, citing the White House’s position that McGahn should not produce the documents. washingtonpost.com/powerpost/whit…
2/ Before we get to McGahn’s decision, let me explain the White House’s position, which was explained in a letter by the current White House Counsel to the House Judiciary Committee.

In the letter, he said that the documents McGahn has belong to the White House, not McGahn.

THREAD: What does Attorney General Barr's summary of the Mueller report tell us? (Short answer: A lot, but there is much more that we don't know.)
1/ Moments ago, Attorney General Barr released a letter in which he summarized what he called the "principal conclusions" from the Mueller report. Here is the letter, which is worth reading: judiciary.house.gov/sites/democrat…
2/ The letter raises many questions and is *not* the full report. But it does tell us many things that are very important. First, it sets forth the sheer amount of work that went into the Mueller investigation. He issued 2,800 subpoenas and interviewed 500 witnesses.

We will hear Barr’s summary of Mueller’s principal conclusions today, according to @LauraAJarrett.

That means we’ll likely hear why Mueller didn’t charge certain people. We may hear more than that, but we don’t know what Barr will reveal today.
You can expect today’s news to begin a lengthy fight over what can and will be disclosed from the report. i discussed that with @AshaRangappa_, @NatashaBertrand, @JenGRodgers, and @shanlonwu at length on my #OnTopic podcast. iPhone link: itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/on-…
I’m busy preparing for a jury trial that starts in a week, but I’ll write more once the conclusions are released.
