Obama's Stanford University speech this Thursday (correctly) raised the alarm about conspiratorial thinking, and (correctly) identified that Big Tech was at the center of that rise - and then (wildly incorrectly) blamed "the algorithm" for it.

Obama committed the sin of #critihype, @STS_News's useful term for criticism that repeat the self-serving myths of the subject of the critique. Every time we say that Big Tech uses machine learning to brainwash people, we give Big Tech a giant boost:

1/9 Identification of "meaningful change" is a key area when working w patient-reported outcomes. Nevertheless, this seems to be another area of applied #psychometrics / #statistics where rituals may have replaced understanding & deliberate practice.

🧵 w some QLR-promotion😊😅
2/9 w QLR's special issue on "Methodologies & Considerations for Meaningful Change" (under #peerreview) we wanted to initiate a more deliberate approach, now rolled out to any paper submitted aiming to make a methodological contribution to this area👇

3/9 An area of concern are discussions around different indices, in particular for classifying intra-individual change: depending on interpretation/ use case, they are all likely not appropriate as they are based on between-indiv variation.

Progress is then not even incremental.

1/ #VechainThor primer: Keeping Tx costs stable

When using a public blockchain, especially for enterprise use, it is imperative to implement a transaction fee (However small it is). The reason is that if transactions are truly free, the network will be spammed with useless Tx.
2/This dramatically increases hardware requirements in the long run. Ethereum for eg. uses "Gas" as network fee. "Gas" is an arbitrary unit, a subdivision of $ETH, the native token of Ethereum. The problem with this approach is that as ETH gets more expensive, so does GAS
3/To mitigate this, several Gen 3 blockchains such as #NEO, #Ontology and of course, #VeChain introduced a dual token system where the primary "Value" token generates the secondary "Fuel" token. This is better, but it still does not completely mitigate price volatility

0/ Another doozy of a thread for you!

The past ~24hrs saw a great many #blockchain projects share development updates and partnership news. Amid this, the #crypto space was ripe with discussion on several topics.

On what, exactly? Well that's for you to find out 😉
1/ 🇺🇸 @AugurProject [ $REP ] - yeah, that #Ethereum-powered decentralized prediction market everyone wrote off post-#mainnet as quickly as @Novogratz revises a #bitcoin price forecast (😘) - well the #USmidterms have seemingly awoken punters from far and wide. Those numbers!
2/ 🔎 @adam3us's leading #bitcoin and #blockchain technology firm @Blockstream announced its new block explorer, blockstream.info.

Now, users can search and view specific data published in real-time to the Bitcoin #blockchain, Bitcoin #testnet and Liquid #sidechain. Neat!

0/ Regardless of the market conditions, the #crypto and #blockchain space is active as ever.

Let's go through some of the eye-catching, project-specific news that took place over the past 24 hours or so, shall we?
1/ 🇲🇾 @NEMofficial's SEA arm - @NEM_SEA - announced an MoU reached with Taylor’s University.

NEM SEA will assist the Malaysian university's School of Computing and IT in many ways. E.g., help author a syllabus devoted to #blockchain, run some of the students classes, and more.
2/ 📣 @DharmaProtocol unveiled #DharmaLever, a way for users to *trustlessly* borrow/lend #crypto in large volumes on a global scale.

Will feed and draw credit liquidity from Dharma's growing network of relayers (e.g. @Bloqboard, #QuickLine).
