Good morning from Camp Justice at Guantánamo. A new batch of 9/11 families and legal observers have reached the base this President’s Day weekend, in time for today’s self-serve brunch at the Officers Club complex, the Bayview.

Update: The film "Just Mercy" had a modest turnout, including a capital defense team and at least one military officer who works at the prison. It was competing with "1917" on Marine Hill. #opseced

Good morning from Guantanamo's Camp Justice. The 9/11 court is dark this morning. The judge expects to start in a closed, ex parte session tomorrow at 830 a.m. and reopen around 10 a.m. with all five defendants at court for first-day hearing session reading of waiver rights.
We expect testimony this week from an FBI agent named James M. Fitzsimmons, who questioned 9/11 defendant Ammar al Baluchi soon after his capture in Pakistan in 2003. This is part of an ongoing challenge to FBI interrogations at Gitmo in 2007.

It’s pack-out day at Guantánamo’s Camp Justice from the fourth motions hearing in the Al Qaeda courier case since Majid Khan’s 2012 guilty plea. No sentencing date is set.
Strange doings at the war court complex. Somebody’s toppled one of Rear Admiral Kuehhas’ Off-Limits signs at the obsolete hangar, and there’s an apparently broken, never-used shower trailer alongside the sulfur-smelling male shower tent at Media Tent City. #opseced
The trailer has no utilities hooked up and has sat unused on dusty storage tarmac for 1+ year. I’m told the 1,800-trooper prison bought it (and about a dozen others) back when — and mistakenly picked this model, with no ventilation. #opseced

It is morning at Guantanamo, and a guard has just lowered the Stars and Stripes to half-mast at Camp Justice this 9/11. We expect the hearings to resume at 9 a.m.
All five defendants waived their attendance rights Monday and it appears that none of them may attend this morning.
