Sigh… I guess it's time for this post. #Ottawa, we need to talk about anti-trans convoy supporter Chanel Pfahl running in OCDSB Zone 8 and why we can't allow her anywhere near a school board seat. #Ottvote #Ottpoli #onpoli 1/
Chanel has already been reported on by CAHN, and in other twitter posts, but I’m going to go into some more detail here. antihate.ca/anti_transgend…
2/
Anyways, Chanel recently tweeted out details about student support meetings for marginalized students in order to mock them because she’s a horrible person. Naturally, this got picked up by dog shampoo connoisseur Jonathan Kay.

Hey #Ottawa, you’ve probably heard that @cmckenney plans to build 25-years of bike infrastructure in their 4 year term. There’s been a lot of talk about where the $ will come from (and what it will mean for tax payers).

I looked into it.

Green bonds are a tool that governments can use to accelerate environmental or climate action projects.

They finance the upfront costs of projects that have long-term positive environmental (and social/economic) effects without siphoning money from other areas, like roads.
Green bonds are low-interest loans. Which means yes, debt. Wait, isn't $250M in debt a lot?

How this debt would be paid off:
1️⃣ Money saved on road wear-and-tear
2️⃣ Redirect $15M/year Ottawa already spends on cycling to pay off the loan

⤴️ would make the project cost neutral.

When will @cmckenney, @shawnmenard, @JoelHardenONDP and @HorizonOttawa acknowledge what they’ve heard at the door: their favoured candidate for Zone 9 school board trustee, Dr Nili Kaplan Myrth is being investigated by College of Physicians and Surgeons for potential breach…
Of professional code of conduct. Kaplan-Myrth is alleged to have sent emails to her clinic patient list soliciting for votes, donations, volunteer-ship, and lawn signs. Great to see our leaders wittingly backing a person who is potentially pressuring their patients …
As a school board trustee, you will sit in-camera, handle sensitive information and have confidential contact for parents and teachers and students. How can you in good faith trust that Dr. KM will act responsibly given what you know???

I’ve noticed something lately: @cmckenney’s Twitter feed keeps reporting places they’re door-knocking around the #OttCity, whereas @_MarkSutcliffe’s Twitter feed keeps reporting businesses and personalities he’s visited.

So I looked into it. #OttPoli #OttVote
Here’s a list of neighbourhoods @cmckenney’s been canvassing in recently:
- Kanata 8/30
- Lowertown 8/27
- River Ward 8/23
- unspecified 8/21
- Alta Vista 8/20
- @OCH_LCO 8/18
- Knoxdale 8/16
I may well have missed some here, but you get the idea.
I can’t find any record of @_MarkSutcliffe door-knocking lately, but here’s a list of businesses and personalities he’s visited:
- Newport restaurant 8/29
- Ottawa Tourism 8/28
- Sparks Salon 8/23
- Carp businesses & market 8/23
- Jennifer Stewart (Carp BIA) 8/23

Scam alert! I’m going to start a new thread since I’ve just found something interesting re “United People of Canada”. See this thread for some background. #FreeDumbConvoy #Ottnews #cdnpoli
“United People of Canada” registered as a nonprofit in March 24/22 under the name “Les Peuple Unis du Canada”.
Even though the $6M property this group supposedly operates out of is in Ottawa, the registered address is 533 Clarence St, London, Ontario. #ottnews #OTTpoli #cdnpoli
Something interesting about that address. Not only is it the office building of St Peter’s basilica in London Ontario, turns out, #TUPOC’s director, William Komer, registered a whole bunch of businesses from that same address, including some on the very same day. #FreeDumbConvoy

A group calling itself the #UnitedPeopleOfCanada or TUPC, has only existed since March 24, yet somehow has $6M to purchase a heritage property in #Ottawa. Oh, & they call it the “embassy” & have ties to #FreeDumbConvoy - which they gaslight about cbc.ca/news/canada/ot… #cdnpoli
I’ll highlight this part again because it’s significant. TUPC has already retrained legal counsel, stating they plan to be litigious towards people calling them out.

Now why would an organization not quite 4 months old, feel the need to retain legal to “intervene”?🧐🤔 #cdnpoli
Interesting thread delving into the fascist symbolism of TUPC.
“The United People of Canada” is also registered as a “nonprofit”. I smell grift & a way to launder foreign money & funnel it to domestic political campaigns (ie Polievre, perhaps?) #cdnpoli

A big one on the Transit Commission Today

Starting with the former public face of RTG. Then going to a panel what will be a whole lot of FUN 😂

Peter Lauch (Rideau Transit Group) – Morn

Then C. McKenney, A. Hubley, S. Wright-Gilbert, D. Deans – Aft

ottawalrtpublicinquiry.ca/public-hearing…
Peter Lauch was technical director, communicating to the board and the city - then he later became the CEO of RTG and RTM to around July 2020.

You should recognize him from council and pressers.
Back and forth, but a small gem here. Peter here memo'ed that Alstom and their tech support were all over the place. Not holding up to promises.

This is important for #ottnews media and #Ottpoli candidates because I’ve been seeing it mentioned repeatedly. The transit budget is not 50/50 (fares/transit levy). The operating budget is nearly $700 M. In “normal” years we collected $200 M in fares. Lately, we collect much less
This is important as people debate lower cost or #FreeTransit. We’ve been collecting about 1/5th of normal fare volume. Think about that. We are already so close to free transit, it’s a low fraction of the operating budget. $40 million? For universal transit in #Ottawa? Wow.
There are caveats of course. This includes other orders of gov compensation during the pandemic. But the point is, with operational funding now being discussed at the federal level, and as a powerful call to meet climate, equity and congestion objectives, this is achievable.

Council meets this morning to consider Hazelview’s controversial redevelopment project in Heron Gate. About 40 people protested this morning outside city hall shouting, “Fight, fight, fight, housing is a right.” #ottpoli
Liberal federal candidate Coun. Sudds gets a moment at the beginning of the meeting to tell colleagues she's on an unpaid leave from city hall but she's “committed to my residents and that’s why I’m here today.”
There has been a lot of chatter during the Hazelview/Heron Gate matter about trying to keep affordable units affordable forever. City staff say you can't make a private company do that. This is a "home run" of a deal with Hazelview, planning services boss says.

Ok, Ottawa. Two years from now potential municipal candidates will be prepping for a summer of barbecues and festivals, warming up for a fall election. This is a great time for those folks who might be contemplating a run to start putting things in motion. #ottpoli
So where do you start? First, with a lot of self-reflection. Ask yourself: why do I want to run? What is driving me? What is the difference I want to make in my community and my city?
That’s the question you will encounter the most as a candidate. And it’s one that far too many candidates are able to clearly answer. Let’s explore why that is.

Last week, I showed that a lot of municipal campaign donations come from people who don't even live in the ward. So where DO they live?

Get to know who was behind the 2018 election (thread showing residences of top donors and who they support). @TransparencyOtt #ottpoli Image

The Nov 6th #Transit Commission will be extraordinary meeting and should be treated as such. #ottpoli
This #transit meeting should NOT include public delegations. It should be committee of whole with all active councillors and the citizen commissioners. #ottpoli

LRT update begins now. How close are we from riding the rails? We might find out. #ottpoli
First up, the derailment last week. GM John Manconi says "human error" on switch movement. Train was moving at the right speed, one set of wheels off track at a switch. The switches are manually controlled in the yard (on the main line they're auto).
"Minor repairs" required to the switch, Manconi says. The train is fine.

LRT update starts with virtual tour of a train. Then a pretty pic of Parliament Station. #ottpoli
Manconi: RTG has "done some amazing work" in recent weeks. Significant progress, he says. But adds "winter ops" as a ninth area to watch.
He gets into the Alstom Citadis Spirit trains. He says they've been used around the world and adapted to the local environment. (Though this Spirit version was designed for Ottawa).
