Most homes have copper phone wiring, which does not require electricity. @PGE4Me @ATT how about cutting a deal to "turn on" service during future #pgeshutoff situations, or emergencies? So people in affected areas can receive autodialed emergency info, call relatives, etc?
Trimline phones are $12 retail, so guessing it's <$5 to issue a landline phone that doesn't need power, for customers in high-risk areas.
Wondering if @californiapuc will revisit their decision to permit @ATT @Verizon deactivation of residential copper warm lines, if consumer switches to VoIP/cellular service for their home. Presumably all parties share concern on inability to call 911 during power outages...

So, northern California is experiencing a #poweroutage right now due to the #pgeshutoff . They gave 800,000 households/ businesses one day notice. The power outage "may last" up to five days.
This is a monopolistic company that has the power to basically do whatever they want. The CEO is the highest paid government worker in the US. sacbee.com/news/politics-…
This is in lieu of the disaster last year during dry season where PG&E's lack of maintenance caused a fire that destroyed an entire town and took lives.
