Last September, I spent several hours in the Emergency Room at Penn Presbyterian comforting Tiffany Fletcher’s family members.
Tiffany Fletcher worked at the Mill Creek Recreation Center. While on duty, she was tragically and senselessly caught in the crossfire between two rival groups of teenagers.
Hundreds of people are marching from City Hall to the school district building demanding justice for the Asian American students who were attacked on the SEPTA train on Nov. 17th.
People arriving at 440 now, chanting “Stop bullies, “Stop Asian hate,” and “Support Christina.”
I spoke to a few Central High School students who were on the train that day. They said everyone deserves to feel safe traveling home.

The School District of Philadelphia was in dire financial straits in 1971.
Dilworth said the only path to solvency was to create 12 mega districts. Each would include a portion of Philadelphia and portion of the suburbs and educate 50,000 students at maximum.

The School District of Philadelphia, as constructed, was "as manageable as a room full of Jell-O," Dilworth told a crowd at the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.
I'm looking right now at a spreadsheet of which parents chose virtual education in Philly and which chose in-person...and I'll say this:

Quick reminder: Back in November the district said it would invite students in grades K-2 to attend school in-person...if they wanted.

I’d be fully supportive of this:
- IF the Board & 440 had a history of being more REFLECTIVE than DEFLECTIVE.
- IF it wasn’t a result of another multi-year, multi-million dollar outside consultancy contract assessing local needs.
- IF school-based & community-based stakeholders..

The @PHLPublicHealth commissioner @DrTomFarley reported 23 new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus, for a total of 67. Ten are healthcare workers.
The increase is due to both an increase in testing and the spread of the virus.

Testing availability is improving. Most of the Philly area's large healthcare providers have set up testing sites. All sites are facing a shortage of kits, which is why they have criteria for who qualifies for a test.

It takes a special kind of somebody to shill for vouchers, charters, and defunding of public education, then claim that biggest danger to kids is "discipline reform" i.e. reducing school suspensions. And yet @Phillydotcom gives this guy the bandwidth: philly.com/philly/opinion… 1/
I'm mom to 3 #PhlEd kids, former teacher and as a Councilmember fully support call to end K-5 suspensions. They're a result of poor practices & lack of resources/supports for kids. Thx to @edlawcenterpa @YUCphilly @215studentunion for leading that call. 2/
