So this report landed up on my TL some days back.
Finally found some time this evening, so replugging some thoughts I shared some years ago on the PLA peacekeepers in South Sudan.
Here goes!

So I came across this 2015 news report, some days ago. A piece that I found V.E.R.Y interesting.
The headline is catchy enough – ‘UN peacekeepers refused to help as aid workers were raped in South Sudan’.

So, Shri Katju ji offered this piece of gyan to General Ata Hasnain some time ago.
He talks about two 'real' militaries - American and Chinese.
Let me share some thoughts about them, focussing mostly on the Chinese who are an immediate threat.

But first, very quickly, the American military.
For all their shiny hardware, I fail to think of any major war that they have actually won after the Second World War.
Korea ended with a stalemate.
Then came Vietnam .. I guess what went there doesn't need any elaboration.

First Gulf War - a clear victory. But then, would you really call it as a war that finished, given that they revisited it in 2003 and are sill there?
Second Gulf War - Hmmm .. your call.
Afghan War - Well, the only good thing is the urgency to get out of there!

Ok folks, so this thread gathered quite a few eyeballs.
Let me now carry on with another, related thread titled 'Who Killed The Chinese Peacekeepers' in that engagement.
Did some digging.
Came up with some VERY interesting facts.
Here goes ..

The thread quoted above mentioned that two Chinese soldiers were killed during the four days of violence in Juba, prompting the rest of the Chinese troops to run away from their posts.
The situation was only restored after Indian peacekeepers stepped in.

Well, the funeral of the two boys back home was a sombre affair indeed, esp since the Chinese populace is not very used to seeing body bags of their soldiers coming back home because, well, the PLA hasn’t fought at all in the past four decades.
