Lately, I've been studying the early days of 3D polygons on home consoles for a new course.

We often think 3D on the #PS1 or #Saturn, but there was a bracket of time where special chips were added to both #SNES & #Genesis to help them render fast polygons.

Here's a review...🧵
It's probably not news to anyone here that retro consoles added special power to games by adding special chips *inside* the game cartridges!

Therefore, newer and fancier games were more expensive because manufacturing the cartridge with extra chips cost more for the developers. The Nintendo SA-1 chip
If you took our course on #NES programming, you know that this was also true for 3rd gen. consoles.

For example, the NES console is always the same (CPU speed, RAM size, etc.), but NES games got better with time by adding these special chips *per* cartridge! Different chips added insid...

In 2022, Kollywood producers have largely benifited due to Red Giant movies,
I tried a long thread to explain d reason behind majority of producers keen to join hands with Red giant movies for TN release..
Do read out⏬⬇️
How does the industry work:
1. Producer sells the movie before release on a MG basis which gives him a gaurantee revenue irrespective of the performance and d risk passes to sub distributors
2. The producer releases on his own on a distribution basis means d producer takes d risk
How does Red Giant work:
Red Giant on default work on distribution basis for a commission ranging frm 5-10% on final theatrical share and handover the remaining 90-95% of the final share directly to d producer which in turn is d revenue generated for the producer from TN theatres

Alright! I watched the hyped teaser of #Adipurush.
That's right folks, I am gonna rant again. See, if they come at my research material and an epic that I worship, you bet I am gonna chargeback!

1. Why in the world did they make Sri Rama fight against dementors from HP?
Seriously! Ramayana is full of epic battles. Starting from Taatakaa which was a moral dilemma, to battle with Khara, Dushana, Trisheersha which was a battle of timing to final confrontation with Ravana which is a battle of strategy. Yet! Prabhas fights with dementors. 🤦‍♂️
2. So much wrong with the costumes. Now, traditionally we don't talk about Rama's shaving accessories, but almost every school agrees that He had a disheveled look until Sita devi's Agni pareeksha. Also why is Rama wearing pajamas? Seriously! Look at 0:53 and tell me I am wrong.

Thoughts on #PonniyanSelvan1 #PS1 from a person who has read and loved the book!

If it was marketed to be loosely based on the book, focusing on certain parts of the story (i.e just inspired from the book) it might have worked. This is no way the movie version of the book (cont)
I am well aware that its impossible to make 5 books into movies and well expected details from the book to be left out, but there was absolutely no need to change major parts of the movie.
Multiple situations have been changed to keep narrative focused on AK vs Nandini when the
story is much much more than that. The strength of Kakli's writing is how he establishes the characters. They are all different and have great depth. If you ask 10 people who've read the book, their fav characters will all be different coz that's how its written. Reducing the

While the Tamil community is sailing in the sea of #PonniyinSelvan movie success, Udayarkudi temple with actual inscriptions on the killing of #Adityakarikalan is in a terrible condition. Half of it is gone due to cementing.
We are the only ppl who destroy their own heritage
The video is from @jaybaradwajs who is there today.

Inscriptions under Dakshinamurthy and Durga completely gone due to addition of brick & cement. It has to be pulled out.
An extremely important temple in history of Chola because it talks of the assassination of chola prince
The temple is badly maintained by HRCE.

An expert panel on preservation has to be set up by law that prevents both HRCE & non HRCE temples from ruining inscriptions and structures without their approval & guidance.

Unbelievable how we make a mess of our own heritage.

Watched #PS1 yday. I felt the story was well executed as a movie, only minus that many introduction setup was brushed aside to make screenplay tighter. The movie was engaging to me and felt like someone narrating the story to me. @Karthi_Offl was splendid as Vanthiyathevan (1/n)
Only Karthi could have done that role and he did it with great ease. Next all characters were well selected and it was proven with the movie yday. @chiyaan as Adita Karikaalan, the confused king, was as brilliant like he always is!
@trishtrashers and #AishwaryaRaiBachchan were 💥
The next character after Vanthiyathevan, I got impressed very much was of Aazhwarkadiyan by #Jayaram sir splendid work sir only you could have done it cc @kalidas700

@arrahman songs and BGM fantastically blended with movie esp Ponni Nadhi. Songs trimmed to make way for story (3)

Loved the spectacular costumes of #PonniyinSelvan1? Costume designer Eka Lakhani is the brain behind it.
@ekalakhani

“Everyone has their own imagination of the characters,” says Eka, adding that the design team made sketches of each character. Image
(2/4)
As a reference, they used the old drawings by artist Maniam for the weekly magazine Kalki.
(3/4)
Eka points out that while these drawings portray the royal characters during their public appearances, they had to imagine how #Kundavai, #Nandini or #Vanathy would look in their private chambers.

My first impression on #PS1 teaser #PonniyinSelvan1
1. Looks completely devoid of Shaivaite symbols. No Vibhooti/Thiruneeru on anyone's forehead.Cholas were stauch Shaivaites.. removing such symbols is a grave injustice.Remember Raja Raja called himself 'Sivapatha Sekaran' 1/n
2. Cholas were pioneers in engineering, spiritually, art, literature, democratic civic system, Navy. Yet, the teaser portrays them as some barbaric warlords
3. Chola's Shiva Bhakti is world renowned. Not an iota of this very important dimension is shown in the movie
2/n
In toto, looks like Manirathnam tried to make a secular version of Ponniyin Selvan. Kalki must be dejected wherever he is.
