Better late than never: the Week 17 elimination scenario thread!

A whopping 10 teams can be eliminated this week. In the AFC, that's the #Patriots, #Jets, #Raiders and #Steelers
In the NFC Wildcard picture, the #Commanders, #Lions, #Packers and #Seahawks could all get eliminated this week
And in the NFC South race, the #Panthers and #Saints could be knocked out.

At the risking of horning in on @Mitch_Seattle's bit, I've attempted a definitive outline of Seattle's playoff possibilities. dannyoneil.substack.com/p/the-increasi…
Really short version: The #Seahawks need multiple teams to lose at least once to have any chance at the playoffs.
Slightly more specific version: The #Packers are an issue for Seattle in addition to needing the #Commies to stumble or the #Giants to collapse.

A few thoughts on the state of the #Packers in form of a thread.

I said back in January the Packers needed to trade Aaron Rodgers. I thought they were better off. @AndyHermanNFL did a video talking about needing to know when your Super Bowl window is. GB missed the boat.
They are now an expensive roster with an aging QB that appears to be a not very good team right now.

So what's the strategy moving forward?

First - you can stop talking about OBJ. Rentals/short-term pieces are not worth it for this team until proven otherwise.
Trading high draft picks for potential contributors? Those players better be long term pieces, because this team does not look like a contender.

They cannot trade their first two picks, IMO. With the way they're playing would it shock you if those are top-40 picks?

#Jets CB Sauce Gardner wearing a cheesehead as he leaves the field, until a #Packers player (looked like Allen Lazard) knocked it off his head.

Big win for the Baby Jets at Lambeau Field.
Sauce got the cheesehead sometime while celebrating with the big contingent of fans leading J-E-T-S chants in the closing minutes.
Hear from Sauce himself shortly on @nflnetwork Image

Ironing out kinks in the viz but here are #Chiefs vs #Cardinals receiving stats to tide you over.

Juju looks promsing, MVS isn't a thing but playing over Hardman in 2 WR sets, don't worry about Skyy.

Hollywood will be fine, Ertz part time coming off injury, idk about Dortch.
#Steelers @ @Bengals

Diontae will be fine, really strong Pat F showing, meh from Claypool and Pickens.

Chase is a star, prob don't care about Boyd even with Tee sidelined, even pre-Higgins injury it was firmly the Chase show.
Air yards data looking a bit suspect for a few teams, going to pause for now

A couple of years ago I published a weekly matchups thread with charts for each game, and this year I'm bringing it back! While I'll normally share on Thursdays, I'm so excited for Week 1 to start that I'm sharing this week's today!

Let's have a great season, everyone! 🏈
Before I start, here's a description of the 3 charts:
1. Comparing OFF vs. DEF key stat rankings
2. Player distribution of 2021/22 DK points
3. Player % of team rushing/receiving expected fpts

In addition to these charts, I'll also include one stat nugget relevant to that game!
#Bills @ #Rams (+2.5)
Game total: 52
BUF implied team total: 27.25
LA implied team total: 24.75
Key stat: Buffalo's defensive pass EPA/play went from -0.112 (2nd) with Tre'Davious White (weeks 1-12) to 0.035 (15th) without him (weeks 13-20). He's out Thursday night.

Over the next week I will be recapping my overall thoughts on what every team did in the 2022 #NFLDraft.

Today I will start with the NFC West and cover the @AZCardinals, @RamsNFL, @49ers and @Seahawks
the @AZCardinals recap

2 (55) TE Trey McBride
3 (87) EDGE Cam Thomas
3 (100) Edge Myjai Sanders
6 (201) RB Keaontay Ingram
6 (215) OG Lecitus Smith
7 (244) CB Christian Matthew
7 (256) LB Jesse Luketa
7 (257) OG Marquis Hayes

fav pick: Thomas
value pick: Luketa
? pick: McBride
draft haul has to include trading for M Brown giving them explosive speed WR they need with loss of Kirk & suspension of Nuk. I think they had more pressing needs than TE after giving Ertz a new 3 yr deal. Think Thomas can become starter & Luketa could have went early 4th

My #Packers rant:

Why am I more upset at Aaron Rodgers than anyone else on the team?

Because Rodgers made me believe in "The Last Dance", when every fiber of my being had consistently said, FOR YEARS, we needed to move on for the betterment of the team in the long run. /1
Me, 2018: We need to avoid any long-term deals with Rodgers, tag him until we can't tag him anymore, and hand the reins to the next guy. We can't bury our future cap in overpaying one guy.

#Packers, 2018: Signs Rodgers to a cap-crippling $134M extension.

Me: Why?

/2
Me, 2021: That was our All In Year. We can't re-resign all these veterans without crippling the cap even more down the line. We need to trade Rodgers for max trade capital, as well as other overpriced veterans.

#Packers, 2021: Extended Bahk, Jones, Clark. All In Again.

Some sportsbooks offer “Big 2” bets - which is the Packers OR Bucs to win the NFC, and Chiefs OR Titans to win the AFC at around -150 each.

Here is why this number is short and I think the “YES” on both is a good bet: 👇🏻

🧵
Starting in the NFC, according to my numbers, GB is 2/1 or has a 50% chance to reach the Super Bowl and Tampa Bay has a 24% chance. If you add the two, since you need either one to win to hit the bet, you get a 74% Packers or Bucs win the NFC.
74% translates to -285 in American odds, which is much higher than the -150 line and the implied 40% probability. “Yes”, on the #Bucs or #Packers to win the conference is a solid bet at the current price.

Aaron Rodgers is blaming cancel culture for him misleading about his vaccination status and then not following league protocols.

Aaron Rodgers claims he has an allergy to an ingredient in mRNA vaccines.

Also adds the in his opinion, NFL vax protocols are "not based in science" but were "shame-based"

Says the Packers knew his status... when he didn't follow protocols.

Position-by-Position Rundown. Feel this format may be less organized but more efficient.
* Justin Fields Dream is officially dead
* Sounds strange but Allen Rob’s best hope = Andy Dalton
* Painful but still buying low on Cal Ridley as long as he keeps getting 10 tgts/game. Bye also out of way
* Somehow, ARodgers has been *better* in box score w/o DAdams last 3 years
* Tonyan & RCobb looking like must-starts on TNF as Covid wipes out #Packers top pass catchers
* Jalen Hurts drafters need a QB2 handy as benching rumors heat up. Suggestion: Danny Dimes
* Tyler Higbee peripheral usage screams buy buy buy. #Rams featuring him in scoring position

#Packers QB Aaron Rodgers to @Kenny_Mayne on SportsCenter on voluntary offseason workouts: "Yes, I did not show up."

On whether he's making news tonight:

"I'm just here so I don't get fined."

On the future:

"Anything is on the table at this point."
Rodgers asked about #Packers fans taking team's side: "I think sometimes people forget what really makes an organization. History is important, legacy of so many people who come before you, but the people. People make the organization."
Rodgers on his situation with #Packers: "It's never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan. I love Jordan. He's a great kid. ... It's just kind of about a philosophy, and maybe forgetting it is about the people that make the thing go."

.@MayorGenrich is wearing a Sterling Sharpe jersey for today's news conference with former #Packers coach Mike Holmgren.

"It didn't have to be this bad. It really didn't," Holmgren says of Trump's COVID-19 response. "He knew and he did not take action."
Holmgren says he's voted in every election but never been outspoken. Says he believes this is the most important elex of his lifetime and, since WI was so close in 2016, he thought he might be able to help Biden here.

"If I'm ever going to do this, this is the time to do it."
Asked about critics who say it's WI's fault there are no fans at GB games, @MayorGenrich: Trump has pitted govs against each other to compete for fed support. If he had been "sincerely interested in working w/ govs of both parties…things would have played out much differently."
