At the age of 20, Sindhutai was left for the dead by her husband with a 17-day-old girl child who she had given birth to in a cow shed. She walked to her parent’s house for shelter, but her family turned her away.

#PadmaShri #HeroesOfHumanity #GirlChildDay
With nowhere else to go and a baby to feed, Sindhutai started begging in trains and on the streets in order to survive. Fearing for her safety and that of her daughter, she spent her nights in cemeteries and cowsheds.
It was during these difficult times that Sindhutai began spending time with orphaned children & realized how difficult life was for them.

She adopted around a dozen orphans & took on the responsibility of keeping them clothed & fed, even if it meant begging for longer hours.

"The day I got my postgraduate degree, I didn’t waste a minute– I rushed back to my village, Ausgrum in Bengal, to become a teacher.

#Inspiration #Teacher #Education #PadmaShri #SeniorCitizens #HeroesOfHumanity #WestBengal
Yes, I had higher salary offers from schools in bigger towns, but for me, the 169 Rs I was offered at my school village meant everything.

I was hungry for teaching the students from my town who needed a good teacher the most.
I taught at my school for 39 years and only retired because I’d hit my ‘retirement age’– 60; what a ridiculous concept!

Afterwards, I expected to spend years drinking sugary tea and wasting my time on the charpoy!

PT Usha’s historic run in the 400 m hurdles final in the 1984 Olympics was a heartbreaking loss for India but one that turned out to be as much of an inspiration as a victory.
In the years to come, she went on to set the tracks ablaze for the next few years, winning golds at the Asian Games and Asian Championships, setting records and being the darling of the crowd wherever she went.

Met with #Padmashri @kkmuhammedk ji -

KK Muhammed was a part of the 1976 excavation of the Babri Masjid, led by B. B. Lal. He stated in a rediff interview that they had found remains of a temple on the western side of the mosque....1 Image
This temple was built between 10th and 11th century during the Gurjara-Pratihara Dynasty. However, his findings were suppressed by Marxist historian Irfan Habib, who was very powerful and influential towards the Indian Council of Historical Research.
KK Muhammed said that they found 12 pillars in the excavations which were constructed with Hindusymbolism, including Ashtamangala signs. They had also found terracotta figurines of humans and animals, which Muhammad uses to hypothesize that a temple existed before the mosque..3

The denial of cremation to the mortal remains of Hazoori Raagi Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa Ji at Verka caused deep resentment in the minds of the #Sikh community and the Punjab govt must take immediate steps to assuage the sentiments of the community. 1/4 Image
I strongly condemn Punjab govt for taking no action against the #Congress councilor & others who had locked the cremation ground at #Verka yesterday and also the officials who failed to ensure the last rites of Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa Ji were conducted in a befitting manner. 2/4
Punjab govt should have consigned the mortal remains of Khalsa Ji to flames with full State honours as he was the first Kirtaniya in the country to be awarded the #PadmaShri. However, the administration even turned down the offer of #SGPC to assist in the last rites. 3/4

“In #agriculture, seed has to be sown, grown, collected, stored, distributed. Of all the activities, I like distributing seeds to people. Even if I lose what I have, they will be safe with someone else,” says Kamalaji Pujhari of Odisha's Koraput district. #WorldIndigenousDay Image
A member of the Bhumia #Adivasi community, Kamalaji has received both international recognition and the #PadmaShri for her work on #seed #conservation, an uphill task when many varieties of #paddy in her village have vanished. #WorldIndigenousDay Image
But these awards haven't helped Kamalaji in getting #rights over #seeds she once cultivated & is now conserving. This is due to the cumbersome nature of the claim making process that ismore accessible to pvt seed companies, research universities or individual commercial breeders. Image
