It’s exactly the same as absolutely ludicrous instructions to the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿public to “proceed with caution” & “remain vigilant” given by @BorisJohnson & @Conservatives in July.

@10DowningStreet @sajidjavid @RishiSunak @CMO_England @uksciencechief
In the weeks since Jul 19, we’ve seen the slow but sure abandonment of #COVID restrictions
V few 😷s in indoor public places, 5-10% ppl are still wearing them, if that.

Festivals are happening, nightclubs are open, there’s virtually nothing that’s out of #Covid19UK bounds.
#SocialDistancing gone!

Restrictions on numbers gathering anywhere gone!

“But don’t worry guys, as long as you wash your hands singing Happy Birthday” & coat yourself liberally in hand gel, the #DeltaVariant (OF AN AIRBORNE🦠) won’t get you!”

Foreign fighters and the trajectory of violence in northern Mozambique.

Happy to see our latest with @EColumbo2019 (@CSISAfrica) in @WarOnTheRocks!…
Foreign fighters aren’t new to this conflict. But the attack at #Palma--the latest in a streak of operational successes for ASWJ--& the group’s affiliation with the #IslamicState have elevated the profile of the insurgency, raising concerns of greater FF involvement in the future
What do foreign fighters mean for #ASWJ & the conflict in #CaboDelgado?

BLUF (part 1): Foreign fighters’ influence is likely to be mixed. In the immediate term, foreign recruits offer #ASWJ a reliable means of boosting their battlefield effectiveness & regional prestige.

#Mozbambique After doubts about IS CA's affiliation with ISIS, group has now claimed their "massive attack" on #Palma. This is the 1st Moz claim since Oct.

Claims at least 55 Army dead as well as Christians/Citizens from "crusader states", seizing vehicles, buildings, banks etc. Image
I've made my opinion clear already but this is a *very* concerning situation and was a rather large and complex attack against a big locale.

The time to act was years ago, but local forces are not capable, even with DAG air support of addressing this

A few entities have used the previous media silence from IS Moz as evidence of weak/fraying links w/ IS, but look at this image- very large ISCA attack squad. I have no doubt more media will come, this is a massive move.

These people *are* a local affiliate of ISIS. Image

The tragic events in #Palma, #CaboDelgado #Mozambique, over the last few days have major implications for peace and security on the Swahili coast of East #Africa. Herewith some thoughts in a mega thread -->
This is an insurgency that has been snowballing since October 2017. It started attacking in the form of small groups of young men, brandishing mainly blunt weapons, and attacking remote security posts. It has evidently now grown into something much more serious.
Recently the U.S. sanctioned the group and called it an affiliate of #IslamicState. By doing so, the group has now been elevated into a box where policy solutions designed to deal with this problem will now be partially framed or qualified by that designation.

Thread on #Mozambique: 1) Since 24 Mar news of a multi-pronged militant attack on the town of #Palma in northern Mozambique have made international headlines, with reports of ongoing clashes, fatalities, displacement & militants capturing, at least temporarily, parts of Palma
2) But #ISIS, which has affiliated fighters in the region and operates through its so-called Central Africa Province branch, has yet to make any comment on the events. In fact, ISIS hasn't claimed any activity in Mozambique in nearly 5 months, since 1 Nov.
3) After a series of deadly raids on and a brief capture of villages and towns in Cabo Delgado (where Palma is also based) in 2020 - namely in March, April, May, June, August and late October - IS went quiet about its operations in the province

New Regional Master Plan in the #BalearicIslands is willing to overturn #transportation planning from traffic to #mobility management.
"If you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic. If you plan for people and places, you get people and places". Fred Kent.
The last 16 years of planning and transportation management has been nearly useless to reduce private motorized vehicle trips mode share. It's time to change if we want to keep living on this precious islands.
Push and pull policies need to be implemented in the short term.
