Dec 21st will be 34 years. I remember day vividly & I've rep'd victims' families for nearly 30 years. I applaud US dedication to accountability but true justice will ultimately require US/UK to reveal all that it knows. Too many past opportunities missed. nyti.ms/3Br8Vmz

1. I distinctly remember as an eight-year-old boy watching the #Eichmann trial. Even at that age I knew what the #Holocaust was and when I watched it with my parents and siblings the horrors of #NaziGermany became even deeper etched in my mind. Then, when I was 16, I spent an
2. evening at a cocktail party sitting next to William Shirer as he spoke of the war and the Nuremberg trials. Some 20 years later my sister married into the family that owns the Schloss where Shirer and the foreign press stayed during the trials.
3. My brother and I shared a deep interest the Nuremberg trials. As an aside, John was godfather when we baptized one of our sons in Nuremberg. One of my closest friends died on #PanAm103 along with DOJ's last Nazi hunter while we were in Nuremberg for the Holidays.
1/Today is birthday of my @UofR schoolmate #KatherineHollister'90 (1968-1988) who was tragically murdered in bombing of #PanAm103 on December 21, 1988.
2/I knew Katherine casually from mixers between my fraternity (Sig Ep) & her sorority (Delta Zeta) & she was dating one of my fraternity brothers. In years following, as one of the primary lawyers for victims (and having filed the first civil lawsuit against Libya in 1993...
3/...which ultimately settled for $2.7 billion in 2003), I got to know her mother as well. Sadly, Babette passed away during pandemic as a result of Covid.

1/My colleague & old friend #AllanGerson, who led efforts to sue #Libya for bombing of #PanAm103, passed away of rare neurodegenerative disease in Dec 2019. His posthumous book "Lies that Matter" is abt to be published. Few knew his true story for years.

3/Allan had amazing career. We met when I was 3rd year law student & started working together following year. We spent years pursuing #Libya for families of #PanAm103 victims. We filed first lawsuit in 1993 & ultimately settled case for $2.7B in 2003.

That this appeal was allowed & not underlying conviction, reflects travesty of justice undermining Scottish legal system. Evidence demonstrated al-Megrahi's guilt. Even if some circumstantial, typical in most criminal cases & was not unreasonable finding.

Today's 31st memorial ceremony at @ArlingtonNatl for #PanAm103 families featured remarks by #AttorneyGeneralBarr, who as AG in 1991 led @TheJusticeDept to indict two Libyans for terrorist bombing.
The playing of Taps in memory of the 270 victims (189 Americans) who were murdered by #Libya 31 years ago today was particularly somber. #PanAm103/#Lockerbie
