@alfredomaldo @clarapath @MarianaDazAlmi1 @alirri Gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, proctitis, or chronic diarrhea are the most common manifestations.

Most cases with accompanying symptoms show improvement with metronidazole antibiotic therapy.

#IntestinalSpirochetosis
Routine staining methods (haematoxylin & eosin & Warthin-Starry) can identify spirochetes on the surface of enterocytes.
Histologically, characteristic findings include a decrease in microvilli &a predominantly eosinophilic inflammatory infiltrate.

@drcole12 is making mistakes here that even a #pathology trainee would be embarrassed to make. His core claim is that spike protein from vaccines is inducing blood clotting. This is generally false. Image
The source of his data is @ArneBurkhardt , who first off, makes so many logical errors that it deserves a thread of its own.
Next, Cole presents slides from Burkhardt's presentation free of context, to give the reader a veneer of legitimacy, but in reality, all deceased people have blood clots. The basis of his claim is essentially the slide shown above, with an absence of awareness of basic dying.

#Pathology #COVID19 #spike #autopsy The German pathologist @ArneBurkhardt is getting a lot of stuff wrong with his presentations to the EU parliament and other interested parties on his supposed technique to determine vaccine related adverse events after autopsy.
Here are all his logical holes. @EuroParlPress @Europarl_EN @Europarl_Photo

Hematoxylin, fancy name for a natural dye derived from tropical trees logwood and Brazilwood. It binds to acids (ie.DNA & RNA), turning them a lovely shade of blue or purple. It's a daily go-to in pathology labs! Check out PMID: 30001639 for a great read on its history and usage. Image
Eosin? More like "Oh, so pink!" This synthetic dye binds to all things positive in cells and ECM, highlighting muscles and connective tissues in shades of pink and red. It's a routine go-to in pathology labs along with hematoxylin! #PathMemes #LabLife Image

With #USCAP2023 approaching, I have been conversing with @MSKPathology fellows about how to make the most of the meeting

Thought I would share some ideas here (thread🧵):

1. Large professional mtgs can be overwhelming & IMO, require a strategy in order to maximize gains
👇🏻 1/ Image
2. Select sessions to attend:
MAKE A PLAN! @TheUSCAP

Review the conference website: 2023am.uscap.org

Select "Schedule" under the "Program" drop-down menu for a day by day, hour by hour view #USCAP2023 👇🏻 2/ Image
3. Focus, Focus, Focus

Too many concurrent sessions at #USCAP2023 to randomly select

Residents: make ACTIVE choices - is there a subspecialty I'm considering fellowship in? is there a technology (#molecpath, #digitalpathology, #AI) that I want to learn more about? 👇🏻 3/

Two images to think about in this diagnosis.
What tips can we list in these two images?
What did I sign?
Next step?

#dermpath #pathology ImageImage
1- In these images, I want to draw attention to two tips. First, that there is a combination of patterns (Lichenoid + psoriasiform). A combination of different reaction patterns should always make you think of syphilis.
2- Another tip is what I drew: Rete ridges. Dr Elston's famous quote for them is sexy ridges. Very characteristic of syphilis.
Next step: Thinking about syphilis, look for plasma cells.

Trepanning:

-8-10k years old skulls with evidence of medical intervention (found in 🇪🇺, Africa, Asia, New Guinea, Tahiti, New Zealand)
-for headaches, mentalities
-many "patients" survived (evidence of healing of their bones)

Celsus (c. 25 BC - c. 50 AD):
-described "trephination"
-recommended it for removal of damaged cranial bones and as a therapeutic measure for relieving headaches
-with a specialized instrument, a surgical modiolus or crown trephine

01/ Buckle up, everyone, it’s time for a Tweetorial. Been working on this one for a while. This time, I’ll focus on the most common mesenchymal malignancy of the digestive tract: gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). #pathology #gipath #PathTwitter
02/ GIST arises from the interstitial cells of Cajal. It can originate anywhere in the GI tract, though most cases occur in the stomach or small bowel. Rectum cases are uncommon, and GIST is very rare in the esophagus, colon, or appendix.
03/ Old terms for GIST include GANT (gastrointestinal autonomic nerve tumor) and leiomyoblastoma. These terms are no longer used, though you may run across them in older literature.

🚨 Ever find yourself in need of a cellular cell block for #cytopath workup? Here is my "bulletproof" way of getting it!

You'll need:
1. Conical vial (lab)
2. Sheep's agar (micro)
3. Plating loop (micro)
4. Plasma/Thrombin (blood bank)
5. Wrapping paper (histo)

1/5

#pathology Image
1. Spin down your fluid in a conical vial at high rpm (~1200) for 6-8 mins and remove supernatant

You'll have a soft slurry.

2. Add 3 drops plasma, 3 drops thrombin and spin again to form clot

#pathology #cytopath
2/5 Image
3. Cut out 2 squares of agar

4. In one square, scrape away a shallow "bowl" to place your clotted cell slurry

5. In the other square, trim in 1/2 and use the thin flap to cover the slurry in an agar sandwich. Agar protects pellet from dissolution!
