POSSIBLE KOCH-RELATED DEEP FAKE 🧵
On 10/27 we were sent a PDF of a new journal article, “Donor money and the academy: Perceptions of undue donor pressure in political science, economics, and philosophy” by Sage Owens & Kal Alvers-Lynde III, who claimed to be econ profs at UCLA
It sent up numerous 🚩 🚩 🚩 and we began to investigate. Unable to find either “professor” on UCLA’s Dept of Economics website, we called the dept on 11/4 & confirmed that there has never been anyone of either name employed there. A follow up email provided written documentation
On 11/4 we followed up with the publisher, Higher Education Quarterly, who confirmed the names of the two authors, because that was the only information they had! Between this, UCLA’s confirmation, and an in depth internet search, we knew we were dealing with something suspicious

This is the #DemPartyPlatform for 2020.This section is called: ACHIEVING UNIVERSAL, AFFORDABLE, QUALITY HEALTH CARE
Only one party has a specific plan for ensuring EVERY American will have access to quality healthcare as a human right..the other fights to TAKE IT AWAY. 1/10 Image
Overturning the #AffordableCareAct remains a central plank of the Republican Party (invisible) platform. The difference in values between the two parties on this life-or-death issue could not be more stark. 2/11 #DemPartyPlatform #healthcare Image
The pandemic has made this difference in values painfully, brutally clear. Pres Trump has repeatedly downplayed the threat of the coronavirus, bullied governors for enacting life-saving public health measures, &left our frontline health care heroes w/o the equipment they need 3/11 Image

This is a story about Tyler and Undrea Shambro, their friend Jason and their adventure into politics.

Before we begin this epic tale: a disclaimer:

One day, Tyler (a lawyer by trade) became a Health Minister. He was in charge of a health crisis. One that was in the works for years: #Privatization

Then a deadly virus, Corona, came along that and a president drink bleach.

But that wouldn't stop Tyler from doing his job.

❓Why do Democrats primary Democrats❓

Short answer:
Because not every Democrat fights for Democratic values.

Long answer:
<thread>⬇️
The battle for the soul of the Democratic party happens in primaries. It comes down to which candidates put #PeopleOverProfits and which do not.

#DownBallotProgressives 🚫corporate💵 and fight for people.

Centrist Dems vote to protect the profits of their corporate donors.

My opponent, @RepTomSuozzi is vice-chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of Centrist Democrats & Republicans, funded by GOP billionaires and dark money groups like No Labels, that tout working across the aisle as a way to solve problems.

Let's talk #MedicareForAll •vs• Public Option

#M4A:
✅ Covers everyone, no exceptions
✅ Includes vision, dental, hearing aids, mental illness & long-term care
✅ $0 premiums, deductibles and co-pays
✅ You see the doctors and hospitals you choose to see

1
<thread>
Public Option = our current system + option to buy into a Medicare-like plan

The Medicare option would mimic traditional Medicare w/ premiums, deductibles & coinsurance. This is an improvement over our current system, but doesn't come close to the care you'd receive w/ #M4A

2
The Public Option doesn’t reduce costs because it doesn't create enough leveraging power or eliminate the administration overhead to drive down prices—it only gives you access to buy a plan.

If healthcare isn't financially accessible, then it's not accessible.

Tonight, the McFarland city planning commission will hear public comment from community residents on whether private prison companies can expand their detention apparatus in California.

This is in violation of CA law.

Thread

#CommunitiesNotCages
In 2017, @MigrantFreedom & @the_ILRC helped draft and co-sponsor #SB29, a law that clearly states no CA city, county, or public agency can approve a permit to expand immigration detention without fulfilling two requirements:
@the_ILRC 1.) The public must be adequately notified at least 180 days before the permit is approved 2.) The city holds two separate public hearings to solicit input from the community #PeopleOverProfits

This is a positive transition for @apsFYI and Jeff Guldner as the new CEO. This transition is the result of our communities making their voices heard. 1/3
azcentral.com/story/money/bu…
Corporations must be held accountable and put ratepayers over profits. This means a bold investment in clean, affordable and renewable energy. 2/3
We expect APS and all monopoly utilities to continue a path of positive transition and halt all political influencing while prioritizing the health and well-being of Arizonans. 3/3 #PeopleOverProfits

America is the only developed country where preschoolers have to engage in child labor to keep their classmate from dying. These kids are kindhearted beyond words, but any healthcare system that would put them in that position to begin with is clearly immoral.

"Each story could be framed in a way meant to disgust us with the state of the social safety net and inspire us to enact policies that prevent such situations from happening. Instead, the authors tend to isolate each situation from its larger context"

mediamatters.org/health-care/me…
That fact that America's social safety net is so porous that a child's hunger has to be solved by a child's labor isn't a heartwarming news story, it's proof that the war on the poor is real. Image

THREAD - APS spends tens of millions on political campaigns! Their stronghold on the #azleg shuts down the voice of our community. We must put #PeopleOverProfits. Here’s a list of what @AZHouseDems, @AZSenateDems said on rejecting APS $$$:
energyandpolicy.org/growing-number…
Rep. @DrRandyFriese: “I received an APS contribution earlier this week. I do plan on returning it.”
Senator @Dalessandro4AZ: “When first taking office in 2013, they gave me a check for $1,000. It was promptly returned because I was running for re-election as a Clean Elections Candidate. ”

Put Ratepayers First -- The utility rates are too high! In the last month, APS submitted another rate increase. Put #peopleoverprofits and prioritize ratepayers and our economic well-being. 2/5
Denounce Political Influencing -- In 2018, more than a dozen elected officials took a pledge to reject utility funds. In 2020, we expect hundreds of elected officials and candidates to join this effort. APS should not engage in future elections. 3/5

APS CEO Don Brandt is testifying before the @CorpCommAZ. Clean energy advocates are outside demanding they put #PeopleOverProfits.

Here are some questions to consider: Image
#DonBrandt: Why did you refuse until recently to acknowledge the millions of dollars Pinnacle West spent on #darkmoney campaigns and elections? cc: @apsFYI #AZ #PeopleOverProfits
.@_JustinOlson, can you ask #DonBrandt: Electricity disconnections by APS grew nearly 50% in 5 years. For the 3rd consecutive year, heat deaths are on the rise in Maricopa Cty. What is your company doing to make sure there are no more deaths? #PeopleOverProfits

This is a great analysis by the @ArizonaMirror.

As APS CEO Don Brandt appears before the @CorpCommAZ for the first time in YEARS, here are 3 of many questions the commissioners should consider -- 1/5
#DonBrandt: You spend tens of millions to reach everyone in #AZ when it comes to opposing #solar. Yet when it comes to educating customers on rate plans, your efforts fall short. Why can’t you bring the same energy to customer service as you do to opposing #renewableenergy? 2/5
#DonBrandt: Utilities across the west like @SRPconnect,@idahopower, @NVEnergy, @XcelEnergyCO, and @PNMtalk have all set strong goals to reduce #carbonemissions. When can we expect a similar commitment from @apsFYI? #AZ #TakingBackourPower 3/5
