2/25. At 12:00 today @CANInt held a press conference to give a state of play update during which we heard from @mohadow of @PowerShftAfrica , @Eddypc of @CANRacCanada, @LiShuo_GP of @GreenpeaceEAsia, @RachelCleetus of @ucsusa, and @TasneemEssop of @CANInt.
3/25. Key messages included, @RachelCleetus on the G77 and China’s continued expectations for #COP27: "Climate-vulnerable countries came with a clear ask. They want a #LossAndDamage fund under the COP and the CMA. Then we can talk about getting it operationalised."

A draft dropped around 06:30 local time and it has ballooned from 2 pages to 20, an unusual choice (and it is a choice) by the @COP27p with 36 hours left, making it FAR harder for civil society to have a voice in influencing the final decision.
Ironically (not really 😱)the text includes the 1.5C target & references to science but then doesn't follow what experts & academics have been saying for years:

First, let’s look at the deep hole the fossil fuel industry has already drilled, dug, and fracked us into. 🔥Oil & gas fields already producing or approved PRIOR to 2022 would cause 490 GtCO2, if fully extracted. 🔥
That alone is enough to push the world past 1.5C warming.

Yet, the oil and gas industry keeps digging the hole deeper. We find new fields & fracking wells approved in 2022 + on the brink of approval in the next 3yrs would lock in an extra 70 Gt of CO2. That’s equal to 17% of the world’s remaining 1.5C carbon budget. #InvestingInDisaster
There is one thing that doesn't seem to be clear for Parties at #COP27: The only “clean” oil, gas, and coal is the oil, gas, and coal we leave in the ground.

Carbon capture & storage (#CCS) cannot make gas green, oil clean, or coal climate-safe.
Ample evidence demonstrates that CCS is:
